So this morning whilst checking all the fish as currently treating ICH using the rise in temperature method I notice one of my neon tetras looks umm fat, the same shape you would see a mollie when it’s pregnant.

I can’t say I’ve noticed this before with tetras so can some help with this please.

Well... they may just be as they seem due to overeating. I wouldn’t pay it much mind, however keep an eye on them for color-loss, gasping for air, or difficulty swimming because those are symptoms of swim bladder disorder.

Most likely this isn’t a big problem, refrain from feeding the little guys for 1-3 days and see if there is any improvement in the physical appearance. Also look at their fecal matter and check if it looks “normal” because they may be constipated. This is all I can really offer with the context given, but i’m not a neon tetra pro so others may have more reliable advice. I wish you and your fish the best of luck!

Where there is a large bump on the underside of a Neon Tetra this can point to a digestive problem. If you feed them bloodworm for instance, the head of the bloodworm can often get stuck in a fishes intestines.

I would recommend cooking some peas and dropping small amounts of the peas internal mushy contents next to the fish in the hope that it will eat it. This vegetable matter will help to increase its digestion.

I would not feed it anything that is difficult to digest until the lump has decreased In size.
