I thought this would be a good topic. It might not be in the right place to post because this goes for all animals in general.

The weirdest pet(s) ive ever kept were three solider hermit crabs that I found on the beach. one was big the others where really small.

I had house ducks!

And you're right, this isn't the right place :p I'll move it to Household Pets.

weirdest thing i kept i guess was stick insects, until they bred, and escaped around the house. -_-

haha I love stick bugs! my friend once kept a baby chick that he found with a broken leg. i guess the mother apandoned it because he couldnt find the mom. after it got big he let it go.

i has the same thing with stick insects jesus they where every where.. the tank was clear then it was green due to the amount of the little buggers

Hmmm... I've had a few that might be odd, or at least different from the typical cat/dog/bird/rabbit.
I've had (or have):
- Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches - currently home to a small colony of 27
- Giant African Millipede
- Native millipedes (not sure of the real name; whatever type lives in NY)
- Emperor Scorpion
- Chilean Rosehair Tarantula - currently have one female.
- Numerous "house chickens" (ie. come in at night, bad weather, and winter, hang out in yard during the day). My current hen, Alejandro, loves coming inside to sit on my lap and watch TV.
- Three "house ducks" (same situation as chickens).
- Two sugar gliders
- A prarie dog
- A chinchilla
- Two 4ft iguanas (they were fosters, but it took a LONG time to place them)
- A partially paralyzed squirrel (technically an education animal, not a pet - I'm a wildlife rehabilitator)

I'm also the only person I know who ever just kept a CAE in a 30g tank instead of disposing of it when it started attacking other fish. Heh.

well, i have had a few exotic pets here and there, or should i say my dads had a few exotic pets here and there, heres some of them:-

iguana
ball python
corn snake
garter snake
fire bellied toads
taranchula
stickinsects
fire bellied toads
hes had alot of other snakes and lizards in th past, but can't remember all of them :)

heres what we have altogether now:-
royal python
kingsnake
leopard gecko
3 tortoises 1 = 18, 1 = 24, and the other is over 30
a dog
2 cats
1 bird
1 hamster
and alot of fish :D

as for other weird pets people i have known have had, my mums, dads uncle, used to keep a monkey, they got it off a friend around 24 years ago, because the people who had it before brought it over from a different country and it was allowed back then, but wouldn't get away with it now

and i knew someone who kept a crocodile in their bath, i never saw it but they have photo's, they had it taken off them, now its in a zoo :D

trust me if i typed out all the exotic pets my family have had over the years there wouldn't be much room for other people to post lol

When I was about four I had a pet slater (kind of like a millipede). Mum wouldn't have it inside so I went out into the yard each day to play with it. I now know that it was probably many different slaters, not just the one. I creatively called it Slater. :p

I have had hermit crabs, tadpoles/frogs, when I was about eleven I raised a skink from an egg then let it go. I have my single apple snail in it's own tank. My mum has a kookaburra that comes at about 1:00 - 2:00 pm each day to be fed on our verandah.

Spiders. Lots and lots of spiders. Also kept a couple of "lucky dragon lobsters". Looking back now, they're probably just red crayfishes  But they were pretty rare back then.

And my favorite....ANT LIONS!!!! OMG I love them!!! Very entertaining, specially during feeding time!!!!

And oh RandomWiktor, I have a question for you....
I've had (or have):
- Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches - currently home to a small colony of 27
How do you feel about Six Flag's halloween publicity stunt? (eat a madagascar hissing roach, you get unlimited line jumping privileges... story can be found HERE )

That's cruel. :( You wouldn't eat a 'fluffy' critter eg. dog/cat....

It's awful how some animals get a bad rap just because they aren't your stereotypical cute and cuddly creature.

hmm lets see, currently:

22 rats
1 rabbit
5 syrian hamsters
18 dwarf hamsters (mix of campbells, winter whites and chinese) currently being rehomed now though.

then there are the usual fish n frogs

im currently badgering the girlfriend for a snake. She recently held a rosy boa and agreed until she found out a an adult you need to feed them rats. that put an end to that. I think im winning her with a snow corm though.

Let's just put it this way.... after reading that article, I am not going to going to Six Flags this Halloween... or ever again. :grr:
I realize that science does not acknowledge the possibility of pain or fear in insects, but after learning about how high bees rate on the cognitive scale, and after caring for many insects and arachnids I've owned, I simply can not condone eating them alive for entertainment. Even if they feel nothing, I think there is a fundamental ethical issue here. And, before anyone says it, yes - I do realize other animals eat insects. But there is an ocean of difference between animals who eat invertebrates out of a necessity for sustinence, and perverse stunts like this that harm animals for amusement. A certain degree of callousness that shouldn't exist in a civilized society is perpetuated by these acts.

well i have corns, kings, royals, many species of Lizards then loads of other animals but the oddest pet that my niece has kept is a pet Locust
She decided when she was younger that she wanted to save a locust that was in with one of my Beardies and took it home it was only small but she had it for around 5 months and was a full grown Locust with wings when it died

I kept a baby green iguana for one night. i found it in a palm tree already tamed. i could let it sit on my lap and feed it out of my hand! my dad said i couldnt keep it so i had to let it go back to its palm tree :( i have to say it was the best animal ive ever kept, well that any my hampster :)
