Ok just a quick one, im not going to mention any names, but my job is working self employed as a salesman *que flame* Now only a handful of people even give me the time of day and listen to what i have to say but in the credit crunch that has happened i hear everyday that people are spending way to much on there bills, ect. and if i try and show them a way of saving on average, 250 - 500+ a year, they say no you cant you just want me to sign up and ill be on a worse deal than before.

Anyone also do this or some form of face to face selling??

Many thanks

The reason people are like that is because we live in an age of scammers, frauds and identity thieves. People have been tricked and lied to so many times and we hear about these things happening in the media all the time. So even if someone such as yourself has a legitimate business, people are very wary about signing up for things and are usually very untrusting. The best way to go about this is to work with people that you know and that trust you and they will grow your business by word of mouth. This is the best way to get the people IME. My business is solely run on word of mouth and referrals and I have never really advertised. People trust referrals, not some stranger that shows up on their doorstep with a fancy suit and big promises.

Good luck with your business.

I did door to door cold calling until very recently. The main thing you have to remember in sales, particularly door to door, is that people don't buy a product. They buy YOU. If they like you, people will buy anything. And the best way to make sure people will like you is to just be you. Stop trying so hard to be a salesman. My most profitable days have been the ones where I didn't feel like I did any work at all. I just made some friends, had a lot of fun and earned some money. On the flip side, the hardest days were the ones where I felt I worked the hardest, analysing everything down to my intonation and ended up putting too much pressure on myself. The fact you're asking tells me that this is exactly what you're doing. Just focus on having a laugh with people and the money follows!
Just out of interest, what company is it that you work for?

Relationships as blinky has said, are key in the sales game, especially door to door. I dont know how you come across to people and Im not judging at all. But they need to trust you 100%, but I know its hard, I wouldn't give a d2d salesman much time tbh.

Another for me is after a hard day at work i close my front door and settle down with wife and kids, to have the most precious time of my day interupted by a stranger boils me. people that stop me in the road or out shopping dont bother me and i would listen maybe but leave my door bell alone :good:
my 2$

Which is another reason why you want to be anything but a door to door salesman when you're doing B2C. People HATE door to door salespeople. Just be a friendly person. People will actually enjoy your company rather than resenting the fact that another #41#### salesman is on their doorstep. You know you've got it right when people cook you dinner and give you gifts ;)
