I'm thinking of relocating my Yo-Yo's shortly, and was just wondering if there is a sure-fire way of removing them from a well-planted tank? Should I build some sort of trap and bait it with some live food? :)

there is a pic of a fish trap on that site..i made one and caught approx 30 africans over a period of two days...it was so easy and soooo nice not to have to ruin my tank. i used algae wafers in the trap.
you can also buy one on ebay for about 30$....just search the term fishtrap.

Yep, the easiest way is to take out all the plants. :p

A bottle trap might work.
Take a clean colourless glass bottle with shoulders (a milk bottle is ideal) fill it with tank water and place it in the bottom of the tank on its side with some favourite food at the bottom. The fish will enter through the narrow neck, guided by the smell of the food, but will have trouble finding it's way out again because it cannot see the way it came in. Then simply pick the bottle up and carefully pour the contents into the fishbag or new tank.

It takes time, but it's worked for me on khulis, stone loach & even hamsters & mice!

Didn't the hamsters and mice drown?

Seriously the bottle trap sounds like a good idea.

Poor, poor rodents  :p

 that was funny danio....but that bottle idea is a good one......I've often ended up pulling up all my plants to catch the slippery little fishes!!

I just recently removed 2 4" YoYo's and put them into a bigger tank. I simply "scared" them (nicely ;) ) into one of the caves they use. Once they were inside, I put the net over the entrance, slowly lifted it off the gravel and stuck the net under it, too. Then I lifted the whole thing out with the YoYo inside. :)

This worked VERY well. I didn't damage ANY plants, nor tear any up, and it wasn't stressful for the YoYo, like a netting would have been....also no chance of Loach Spikes getting caught in the net  That's my biggest fear.

Grand idea SirMinion. Sounds like the quickest, easiest and safest method so far. Patience is the best strategy methinks here. :)
