Hello everyone :)

I was wondering everyones opinion on whats the best 500 litre tank on the market and what filters etc are the best for such a large tank

well not sure on the tanks but for the filter I would recommend a tetratec ex1200, 2 of them for a 500 an you got yourself a little powerhouse there!

I just got a 500litre from ND Aquatics. Really good quality and it was in the special offers section of their website for £540. It may still be on offer too.

Only downside is they have to make the tank and cabinet, which took approx 4 weeks from ordering it to it being delivered.

Also, their tanks don't come with lights and brackets included, but there is an option to buy lights etc directly from them and add it to the order. I bought my lights elsewhere but the price difference wasnt really that different.

would have to be a custom build, i know rena but i think aque one?? do 500 litre tanks? also APS do a 500 litre tank that is £699 at the minute with lights filters and stand in with it and i know a code that takes the price to around £595. I was tempted to get this but its a 6ft tank and its 2ft tall but is not wide enough for what i want really.

Thank you for the replies, I'll have a look at the suggestions. I'm not going to buy one soon but when I move house in a year (or less) I'm definately keen on having one, so I'm starting to look now.

MA do the Seashell Oak tanks :)

I would love to have the 5ft Systemised Oak tank :) They two versions, the open top one that is £799 and it has the hood but no hinged lid and the full hooded one is £999.

I personally actually prefer the open top one and an Arcadia Pendant light. Not cheap tanks at all but god do they look good!

EDIT: i mention that one because i think its something like 496L plus sump brings it up to 550 odd :)

I dont like open top tanks after having a few jumpers (fish that is) in the past. They are good looking tanks though and would be a fab centrepiece in any room.

Its got glass sliding covers, its just the hood is open! :) made for pendant, halide or LED lighting, its a tall enough tank that you dont notice.

Oh in that case I would get the open one. They only have the closed one in my local branch.

Bit off topic (ok totally off topic), but just wondering MBOU if you know any UK shops that have a wider range of hillstream loaches then goldrings and spotted?

To be honest, when i've ordered them, even by species, the come in completely mixed!

And the species name on the list changes from one week to the next and to be honest, 99.9% of customers dont really care what species it is... so long as its cheap..

Oh :(

I suppose that is the problem with wild caught fish from the east.

I was looking at getting a few different species for my new river tank. I guess I will just keep my eyes open then lol.
