I read somewhere that many fish illnesses can be cured with aquarium salt & water changes.

Metronidazole is an antibiotic, so you can only get with a prescription in the UK.

Are they afraid people would use it & save going to the doctor's office?
It's because not using antibiotics properly causes resistance in the bacteria. That's what's caused all the 'superbugs' that are now resistant to nearly all antibiotics.

Sera costapur

Sera bactopur

JBL Ektol fluid

JBL Fungol

BioDigest living bacteria ampulls
Just in case.

I think it's better being safe than sorry, so I always have the medication at hand for the most common diseases, and also a book about the diseases so I know exactly what I am dealing with. But, actually, I haven't had any kind of need for any kind of medication for ages as fish don't get ill by themselves as long as one is keeping their tank in good condition. But when getting new fish, even quarantined, you can never know beforehand if they have something, so it's good to have some meds at hand.

Almost all the liquid hand soap here and many cleaning products are now "anti bacterial". That can't be helping the 'superbug' situation any.
