Can anyone help?
Every couple of weeks or so since getting my first fish (tetra and Cory’s) in my new tank strange living objects have been appearing.

They are sort of spiral (ammonite) shaped, 2-3mm across, twitchy and mostly translucent with an orangeish coloured stripe. They only appear singly, usually stuck to the glass and then disappear (I suspected they were being eaten), I'm not entirely sure it's not the same thing now. Surely someone out there knows what this is (these are)?
Any ideas.

Confused new fish keeper.

No idea what they are, sorry. I saw your member name though and wondered if you have any goats or like them, or if the name was some random one you picked. I'm a goat person and thought I'd see if you were too :)

I once had something similar in one of my tanks but its a mystery to me also? could be mosquitos? who knows? :dunno:

Are they some sort of nematoad? I trust that you arn't skiping out on you meds :fun: lol. Were they 2-3 mm thick or were the curls 2-3 mm thick.

Id try to get rid of them if you can find anything to remove them. they could be a snack for your fish or they could be snacking on your fish. tell us how they are acting

Opcn :D

Thanks opcn  they do seem to be some sort of nematode, must have come in on the plants I suppose, can't tell if the fish or the worms are doing the eating.

Lizard, I have had a fondness for goats ever since one ate my Mums' handbag when I was about 5. Haven't got any yet- any goat buying tips appreciated. :)

Spirals? I'm staggered nobody has mentioned snails yet!!! If you've got live plants, chances are you've got snails, they or their eggs are almost unavoidable. Newly hatched Ramshorn snails for example, present as pinky-yellow, translucent spirally things on the glass.

Ah, yes, darling munchy goats :p They do like to taste things...they use their lips kind of like we use our fingers - to feel things and to check them out. Goat lips are so cool! :D Make sure you buy healthy goats when you do get goats. That's my first tip. Feel free to ask more questions. My web page is listed in my signature. Yay, another goat-loving person!!!!
