theres only really 2 types of setup that have really captured my passion carl , and thats malawis , and planted . so il probably stick with malawis in the big tank and give it a while then slip a little planted tank in somewhere :hey:
Why not the other way round???
Imagine the 6X2X2 looked like this?

Then stick some rare oddballs in, they will prove to be as fun and great as Malawis AND at the same time, you'll have a great looking tank too, not a bland aquarium with lots of rocks piled up inside ( Just my opinion, sorry :look: )

i wont commit to say better , but i cant deny its certainly in a different league aestetically

overwhelming yes vote! ok ive added a 2nd question to the poll

If your new Malawi stocking does not need more room and you are happy with them, which you do appear to be, on reflection I'd say keep the current fish and setup (unless you can find a practical way of temporarily moving the Malawis for 6-8 weeks).

Sometimes, less is more...

the malawis dont need more room , in fact if anything they could do with the numbers increasing a little. and yes i am happy with them , but the 30g i bought was going to be a high tech planted , and now i have to sell that as well. meaning i have to choose either 1 or the other . there is no way i can keep the current malawis temporarily in any way so i have no choice but to let them go. the choice to upgrade was easy really , the choice on what to do with fish however is much more difficult

typical eh , ive been trying to persuade the missus that a 6x2x2 would be the best tank for ages with no joy . and now its her idea i should be jumping for joy but its making me face a couple of difficult choices

A 6 footer sounds great I can understand the desire to go for that if the opportunity is there now however I can;t understand why you;d want to plant it. The malawis look ace and would look even better in a 6ft!! :good:

at the moment mate im still planning on sticking with malawis , planted is just something i love as well ,and id be lyingt if i said i wasnt st least looking into it . i just added the 2nd question to get a bit of input/feedback .

Just keep the malawis and put them in the new big tank.

What kind of floors do you have in the UK? Would you reinforce the floor for the extra weight? That's my biggest problem is my floors could not hold a tank largertheb what I have unless I reinforce them.

circumstances dictate that even if i stick with malawis ( likely) id still have to sell these ones while the upgrade is done . weight isnt an issue ive got concrete floors :good:

I've not read the thread so apologes for missing any key info and repeating other people but...

I would get the 6x2x2 but keep your existing Malawi's. Hopefully you could find them a home in the mean time (if needed) then add them to the 6 footer and then add a hole lot more!! :good:

James.

the 6 footer is going to happen for sure , as soon as these tanks are sold il be ringing nd aquatics to make the order . unfortunately tho as ive said several times in this thread the catch is that i would have tosacrifice this particular group of malawis in order to upgrade . which is the main reason for the poll , to get some feedback to help me make the decision.

and i made the decicion based on this thninking................ i can get the same malawis again any time i like , but the 6 foot i have been on about geting for ages and the missus has been ver anti it to say the least , now its on the cards , but its a now or never kind of thing .

so had to weigh up which id look back on with the most regret later on down the line , selling some nice fish , or missing out on my dream tank . and when i thought about it like that the choice became much easier.
