it wouldnt be short term it would be 6 to 8 weeks for the new tank and then id have to cycle again on top of that , theres no way id put ther poor things in substandard accomodation for that length of time

How come such a long swapover period? Could you not advertise them closer to the delivery time of the new monster tank?

theres no way id risk ordering a 6 foot tank until i knew i had the means to pay for it , and with nd's current order volume the lead time is 6 to 8 weeks also if it was ready for delivery and i hadnt sold the 4x2x2 id be royaly screwed

Ok, I'm going to be the blunt one who says it as I see it. Not meant to offend but you've asked what people think......

I actually think you're mad in a way to have had so many different setups yet you've changed them all because you didn't feel they were for you. Don't get me wrong, I fully understand how it feels to not be having your boat floated but........you finally found a setup that you are/were excited about, with some beautiful fish that aren't cheap and now you're getting rid again?? I just personally feel a bit mystified.
It's lovely to have the opportunity of a bigger tank, I just don't think it's right to just get rid of the fish you have now

I'm aware that it's a tricky situation but that's my two penneth based on my own thoughts, not what I expect you or anyone else to agree with but you did ask :)

i would talk to the place you got the malawi's and say can you hold them sure you can sell them if someone wants them but chances are you should be able to get most of your stock back just emphasize how you spent £150 in there and now you have a larger tank you will be coming back to buy more. just make sure you talk to the manager.

well lisa i have to say i respect your honesty , but let me just adress a couple of the points you make ( altho they are valid points)

i love the malawis and if i could find a way to keep them i would , it isnt about not "having my boat floated"

i didnt hint to the missus for a 6foot it was HER idea .if she hadnt offered me the chance to get my dream sized tank id be sticking with what ive got

i would never ever just "get rid" of a fish. any time ive moved fish on they have gone nowhere until im happy ive found them a good home

i knew some people would be against the idea , but im not doing this irresponsibly .

no really practical . they came from a breeder the other end of the country , id have to ship them to him , get them shipped back etc which is £44 each way. and is just lots of stress for the fish

tanks officially up for sale now so there's no going back :hyper:

Its a shame but not often you get the chance to get a brand spanking new tank of that size. I see your point with keeping them in bins long term it would end up being bad times, I thought you may have been doing a swap over while the original tank is there. No way around it without costing you extra money, then having to sell any equipment you buy to keep the fish in storage.

As I said your stock wasnt that amazing anyway haha!

I meant the previous setups with the discus and oscars didn't float your boat and it was a case of dealing with that as you saw fit and its a huge shame about the malawis because I know they do. I wouldn't say you're being irresponsible, it's just a shame that because you have the opportunity of a bigger tank, you now have to compromise by giving up the fish that finally seem to excite you but I guess you're feeling the same way that many others here would if they were in the same situation.

It's very, very difficult to have to make a choice such as this one, I don't envy you and maybe I'm lucky that I have 2 big tanks already but my own personal thoughts would be that if I enjoyed the fish I have and because of the research and money that had gone into the decision to have them, I don't think I could give them up for the sake of a bigger tank but that's just me, we're all different which is what makes the world go round.

At the end of the day Mark it doesn't matter what I or anyone else would do......it's your choice based on all sorts of reasons so you have to feel happy about the choice you make :)

i will probably stick with malawis lisa , its just unfortunate that im unable to keep these particular ones in order to upgrade , but the cost of the fish/rocks etc has been taken into account in my asking price

Just because you like African Cichlids ATM :D :shifty:

theres only really 2 types of setup that have really captured my passion carl , and thats malawis , and planted . so il probably stick with malawis in the big tank and give it a while then slip a little planted tank in somewhere :hey:

i would love a bigger tank, i've only a 2 footer but i love it and quite content with it ( boring i hear you) i would listen to elisew and enjoy what you got
