Need some suggestions and reasons for those suggestions for my 65 Gallon. After the collapse of the 6 foot and the death of my female Severus I have decided to kick this tank into gear and be something I can be properly proud of again.

Only definite inhabitants are
1 x Heros Severus (male)
1 x Nicaraguan (female)

Unsure on any other fish I have. All bar the two above, my whiptail cats and headstanders are being rehomed over the weekend so I should have a good chance to get something in place so the filter does not die off too much from the stock drop.

But yeah all ideas cichlid and none - just so long as they are South American or Central American. I know my tastes but none of them get me excited right now so I need someone to throw me a curve ball.

Giving up on plecs to be honest lol Ive had mine for a year and never see them but I am liking whiptail cats at the moment - got some Sturisoma Aurem at the moment which are great and tempted by some LDA010 red lizard whiptails as well. I want some "zippy" catfish as well

I want a few more cichlids - still tempted by some krobia or cupid cichlids but I also want an other "feature" cichlid and to be fair thats what I am most stumped on what to get.

For schoolers, bit undecided but yeah a good school of something at the larger side of 2 inches would be good actually :) But still undecided about my headstanders and if I want to keep them :/

Question is do you want a busy tank with lots of smaller fish or just some other cichlids. I know acara are out  Thorichthys maybe? Have you thought of swapping your heros for smaller sevs, rotkeils maybe? Festivums? total curve ball how about a parrot! (personally no for me but)

What are the dimensions of the tank? I would be reluctant to add another 'feature' cichlid in a 65 gallon tank personally.

I ditto the festiums idea. Festiums would look nice.
Angelfish in there would look nice.
Then you can add buneous aires tetras and maybe some congo tetras.
As for bottom dwellers, the tank is good sized for a pictus catfish or school of pictus cats.
Cory cats and raphael cats aswell.

Thanks for the quick replies :)

Star - Heros Severus get to a similar size as Rotkeil if not smaller this chap is 3 years old at 6 inches and is a wild caught. I was actually thinking of a T.Aurem earlier tonight but not sure - think with cichlids I would rather go SA than CA to avoid breeding with my nic. Festivums are a maybe as are angels actually but not sure how they would be with my nic.

Jacko - Like the idea of a dwarf pike but hard to find at a decent size for some reason :/

Shroob - The tank is a Roma 240 so somewhere in the region of 4ft x 16w x 18t but strong possibility of a 4x2x2 before christmas but dont want to get into this situation again of having to juggle stuff around so quite agreeing with an other mid/large cichlid perhaps but still think it is doable - what do you think of the group of krobia or cupids?

shame if you had a grow out tank i could have let you have a couple of juvis to grow on ive got 5 there just starting to bicker as there size increases

Dont know why I am thinking they are much bigger :fun: Cupids are nice, :good:

I don't have experience with cupids/krobia so can't speak from experience. In the 48"x24" tank I could see it working, I personally think a severum, nic and a group of smaller cichlids would be too much for the 48"x16" tank.

cool - dont forget though this is the true Heros Severus not the common Efasticious so stays much smaller, around half the size of the common green sev and the Nic is a female as well so again smaller than the males and stated sizes on the net.

How about a group of geos, like sp.tapajos or some keyholes would be good. I like some of the brochis sp. they are huge corys and look good.
How about a spiny eel, one of the smaller species.

I have geos at the moment but in a 65 they get too big even the tapajos especially when kept in a group - the cupids and krobia are my option IMO against geos.

I do like brochis but the are so expensive here! £20 each! and my girlfriend isnt crazy about them so not really worth the money if neither of us are mad about them.
