Hi I need to upgrade my vivarium/paludarium aspirations on my 100 litre tank as the plants just sit on top of the tanks lid at the moment and block out quite a bit of light. I also have to remove them every time I do a water change which means they don't root into the substrate.
I did a nitrate test on both my tanks that are set up very similarly (same substrates, similar plant list, similarish terrestrial plants growing out of the surface and similar stocking levels pro-rata for the smaller tank) and one came back at 0 and the other was sitting at about 40ppm (which Im aware isnt great but trying to deal with it). So based on the tank that is running 0 nitrates I want to try and replicate this more on the other tank and to do this I think I need some kind of frame above the tank that looks like this picture.
This one sort of looks home made which I'm guessing is what I might need to do as its a unique shape I need to make, but wondering if it has a name and if there are any kits you can buy to build it from? I've got some bits of a D&D jump guard left that I'm wondering could work as the mesh would allow the plants to take hold and eventually cover it without trailing over the top of the tank or flowing over the edge.
