I want to get a nano tank with 1 clownfish in it. What would I need? I have freshwater equipment like amquel and melafiz but what kind of hardware would i need? and what sized tank? I would want an anemone and a couple of those cute cabby things that go in anenomes and a few shrimp maybe. But mainly 1 clownfish, HOPEFULLY maybe another fish along fish it. I saw a super GREEN fish that was small and friendly in a magazine what wouls that be? Thanks :D

the size of tank depends on what you want to do. you need salt(of course :p ) you would need lighting, if you want to do most hard corals later on, you might as well just go with MH (metal Halide) right now, instead of having to upgrade later. also, you would want/need powerheads. the price/size of those depend on how strong you want it, and how many depends on how powerful they are and the size of your tank. you need a filter and heater. you will need sand/gravel/live sand and live rock. if you don't already know, live rock is usually fairly expensive, around me it's $6 a pound. you may want a skimmer or refugium, I dont use either, but I am considering getting a refugium.

that's all I can think of right now. anyone, feel free to correct or add as i'm fairly new to saltwater.

For truely only one clown fish..
What I would do min is:

30L or 29 high (30L better)
Biggest HOB filter made (or 2 small ones).
one or two maxijet 900s
2-3 big pieces of LR (preff 20-30 LB).

15-20 mini Turbo (astria)
15-20 nasarith (sp)
OR but not both
30ish small hermit crabs

Salt
thermometer
Hydrometer
amonia NO2/No3 tests.
RO water (whether you buy or have the machine).

The best advice i can give that hasnt already been covered in the above posts is drop the anemone and get a sarcophyton instead. Anemones dont have a good survival rate and they need far more strict water conditions. Leather mushrooms are very easy to keep, less demanding on the lighting required and Clowns will host in these just as readily.

thanks guys for all of you help. Also how much would all of this cost? I think I would add a canister filter though. So 15 Gallons US right? And what is a leatery Mushroom? Is it livving and pretty?

The leather mushroom is the anemone looking thing in Navarre's post with the clownfish :)

Setting up my 10g has cost $267 so far, and I already had the tank, hood, heater and filter. The biggest cost I've had by far has been live rock.

Thanks so ill save up 300 dollars for the tank....thats alot of extra days working doing dishwashing....

Depending on the cost of live rock around you, it may be well over $300. you need 1.5-2 pounds of live rock per gallon, that's 45+ pounds for a 30g. around me its $6lb. for LR, that's a pretty penny

Plus, you need to add the price of the tank and all other things, lighting is fairly expensive, my 24" 130 PC was $85 used(only for 6 months), it originally was $140

Ok so ive taken all of the information on this post and I put it in a list format. Correct me if something is wrong ;)

15 Gallon (US) Tank (custom made tank) $40
Hood $10
Light $50
Filter $30
Live Sand - ? pound - ? price
Live Rock - 22.5 pounds - $100
Powerheads - ? price
Salt - ? price
Heater - 75 watt- $20
Thermometer - $3
Hydometer - ? price

I got my hydrometer for about $6 and my salt was $13 for 25gallons worth. not sure if that's normal. the powerheads, I got a 164gph and a 127gph for $32. the live sand is 20lb.s for like.....around $32....around me, but that includes the weight of water.

actually u can keep one in a 10 gallon. You can keep a pair in there as long as they're not maroon clowns. Chromis's do best in groups of odd numbers. Also if u want corals you are gonna want to spend more than 50 $ on lights. a good place to get lr is at saltwaterfish.com It is like less than four dollars a pound. You aren't gonna want a huge powerhead. Just one sweeping across the tank and one pointed at the surface. For live sand u can see if yur home depot stocks tropical play sand if it does then buy that. Then if yur LFS lets you or if u have a friend near you with a tank then you can take a cup of live sand and seed yur sand with it and it will become live. U can probly get a cheaper heater. Around me its like 16$ for a 200 watt. U can probably do this tank for cheaper than 300$. If u do a ten than u could just use 15 pounds of live rock.

U would put Maxijet 900's in a 15 gallon tank?

you tank is = to 38 ltres.

So a 900 ltr per hour is almost 24x volume of tank per hour.

Great!!!! :kana:

I would love to be able to reach 20x my volume :*)
