When I was maybe 5-ish we won a goldfish at the fair. It died within 2 hours of winning it and bringing it home (I'm guessing due to the probably not-dechlorinated water. Eeep).

I actually cycled my tank....when I was just starting out officially.
I bought Aquariums For Dummies which really helped me start out..

Danios first, then guppies "oh yes, a male and three females will be perfect.... oh the great thing is you may get babies one day". Well I got the last laugh, I gave then 30 back in total

my BETTA DIED ABOUT A MONTH AGO BECAUSE OF SOME WIERD BETTA DISEES IT FINES TURNED BLACK AND THE NEXT DAY IT DIED

my first fish (as most) was a gold fish won from the fair. I recently got into keeping fish a few years ago when my brother bought a big 60 gallon.

 my first fish was a zebra danio witch i named carpet (hey, i was like 5 or something!)

my first fish (other than the goldfish i had as a kid) were 5 leopard danios, which i only got 4 months ago

Mine were zebra danios because 'They're hardy and can go in a new tank'. Not..."By the way you might want to cycle your tank first. Though this was a couple of years ago when I told my parents about fishless cycling and I was going to put ammonia in as a source of food for the bacteria to get started on" They pulled a face at me, told me "I wouldn't do that if I were you. Sounds a bit dangerous to me..." lol..

first fish tank was a 100 gal natural salt water tank. I have no clue what any of the fish in there were, we did water changes by going down to the shore. Was a lot of fun to watch all the microscopic inverts grow!

goldfish  in a l gallon tank =/ no filter or anything :(

gave them away within a week ^^
