so please jsut in short a list of what plecs can and cannot eat and why they can eat them?

thanks so much

can and cannot might be hard to prove...

but ours WILL and do eat.....

Cucumber
Courgette
Corn on the Cob
Peas
Sweet Potato
Broccoli
Mango
Lettuce
Mellons
Tomatoes
Butternut squash

and thats about all we've tried so far (there arn't many more fruit and veg that we eat)

just thinking now... the only thing they havent eaten that we've tried was apple.

Stupid q... what do you use to weight your cucumbers down with?

Just wedged mine under some bogwood...

I either use a veggie clip, or just do what you do and wedge it somewhere. Mine hasnt taken to cucumber yet...but i think that is because he just doesnt know what it is yet...what has everyone else had good success with?

My Bn is totally ignoring it - muching on the bogwood next to it.

The Upside down's are eating the plant above it,

The only one which has eaten any is the chinese algae eater...

One of the danio's has investigated it and dislodged it but that's just what this bunch seem to do - swim around and find something to play with...

Given time, Bristlenoses will know what it is and eat it. Mine will devour several pieces of cucumber in a matter of hours.

I've got a butternut squash in the fridge at the moment which probably should have been eaten by now, perhaps i'll cut a slice off later and see if any of my fish take a liking to it.
Is it just a case of putting it in raw, or does it need par cooking ?

^^Agree! Mine finally started eating the cucumber yesterday and completely devoured it once he recognized it....i guess patience is the key... :good: thanks for the advice all

we feed all our veg raw - the squash took 2 days to get eated (skin included) but we have some plecs that like the outsides and others that eat the flesh - you might find a short blast in the microwave will soften it up a bit if they prefer it soft ;)

They are not quite pleco but I got some baby albino bristlenoses recently. And I tried carrot top(not the leafy top but the top part I don't eat) and they seem quite fond of it. Also they did get fed the bottom of asparagas and they did enjoy these also.
I just hope nobody tell me these vegi is not good for them. Also I wonder if the carrot make them more orange.

And how long can I leave the vege in the tank? I know I should take them out before it foul the water but my ABN was stuck on the carrot for days (2~3 days) so I left it to be.

Another question for the plec experts...I am going to feed my plecs some peas tonight if i can....I understand i dhould boil them in the microwave but i was wondering will they sink?? Obviously a veggie clip isnt gonna work on a pea....thanks :good:

Drew

boil them for a bit or microwave them, pop the peas out of their shells - they should sink...

i am getting a pair of albino bristlenoses and was wondering if when you boil like cucumber if it sinks?
