Hi all,
I have successfully bred mollies, guppies and platies, they have their own tank and will soon be big enough to go in with the others and i would like to try something a bit more trying any suggestions, i quite fancy a mouth brooder but it has to be able to go in my community tank eventually and i have neons and minnows and would not want to upset them ! Also i bought a fish a little while ago called a gobi and cannot seem to find much info on them. He seems a little interesed in pursuing the small fish but does not seem very persistent, want to know if he will eat the others or just have a look!
Thanks

that gobi do you mean gobies.

If you are tyring to breed a mouthbrooder, the best thing to do would be to put them in their own tank...although it dosn't suit your criteria, it's the best thing you can do for the fish. If the female holding the eggs, gets the least bit stressed during the incubation periods she may spit the eggs out (which the other fish will most likely eat) or she could swollow the eggs.

There are a heap of mouthbrooders out there, altough my favourite of them all is the chocolate gourami, which is quite a delicate fish and not suited to a community environment...

What type of Gobi do you have? many of the common species them need brackish water in order to thrive

Try breeding Cichlids, they will be more expensive then those live bearers that you obtain, and cichlids are fun too, just pick your favorite kind, and breed them.

I would Try Angels then Discus and Some dwarfs

I do have 2 tanks the smaller has the fry in at the moment so whatever i do attempt to breed will have its own tank but i would like to try and keep as much of the fry as possible which means once grown they will have to go in my community tanks with neons etc so i am reluctant to try cichlids as they tend to be agressive and upset my tank everytime i try to keep them ! yes i did mean gobies ! :D

Cichlids! The courting rituals and rearing of the young is fascinating to watch and many are not too difficult to breed. There are so many to choose from it's hard to make suggestions but I'm partial to the South American dwarfs, apistogramma in particular. Rams are a good choice too. Most will breed nicely in a 15g-20g. Some in a 10g. They are also good fish in a community tank (although fry survival is tougher, depending on the tankmates) most of the African cichlids are not community fish except with their own kind.
