What Stage Am At At The Moment

Right guys im on the 12th day of my fish in cycle..
My reading yesterday were

AMONIA 0.50
NITRATE 10
NITIRITE 0.25

after a 60% water change i got all the levels to pritty much zero.

And today i have

AMONIA 0.25
NITRATE 10
NITRITE 0

so im going to do a smaller 40% waterchange this should get the amonia to 0 again..

Do you think im getting close to compleating my cycle and what should i look out for to tell me my cycle is complete.

I'd say you are on day 12 of 30, since 30 is the average number of days we like to quote for a fish-in cycle to complete. And even at that I'd say 30 was chosen to have something to say, since its highly unpredictable given that there are a zillion variables.

Yes, you sound like you are learning to focus on what kind of water-changing regimen it takes to put ammonia and nitrite down at zero and to have it not rise above 0.25ppm by the time you are available to do another water change if necessary. This is the main focus of Fish-In cycling and more important than anything else.

yer i am definitly trying to put everthing iv learned on here into practice and do the best for the fish.. But im definitly doing a fishless cycle next time...
