What Species Are Captively Bred?

Almost all species in FW are captive caughts, it's just that some of the very commonly kept ones are often captive bred.

Well i can say that i can easily list over 60 types of freshwater fish which are commonly captive bred or can be captive bred than i can with marine fish.

How many marine fish can you list which are captive bred?

And of those that are commonly bred, how many are actually captive bred and sold in the stores?

Anemonefish can be captive bred, as too can banggai cardinalfish, yet neither are too often available as captive bred specimens in the average store as the cost of raising in captivity outweighs that of capturing live.

While people have bred all sorts of FW fish in captivity, just how many are often offered for sale at an lfs are really captive bred?

The aquarium trade has nothing to do with trawling, which is for food products and stuff, but i agree trawling probably has a much more damaging impact on the environment. None the less though, that doesn't make the the negative impacts the aquarium trade has on the environment and its wildlife any less important to adress.

No, but it shows it is not all doom and gloom. As I said, the presence of trade fishermen prevents trawling, which can only be a good thing.

Also, look how many conservationists first keep SW tanks, and then go on to study the ocean and become ambassadors for change in our interaction with reefs. The prime examples here are Rob Fenner and Scott Michael, who many now emulate. The hobby can be, and often is, a force of change for good.
