What size tank

depends on the size of the fish
longer fish will appricate the depth but smaller fish won't see a difference

Not nesarsarily- for example tiger barbs are very small fish but due to their social agressiveness and high activity the recommended size tank for 8 is 30gallons minimum. Small air breathing fish like corys also appreiciate shallower tanks as its easier for them to swim to the surface to breath than in a deep tank for obvious reasons.
There are many other examples of small fish preferring large/long/high tanks.

Hmmm well the only thing that would need to get air would be the senegal bichir. I've been lookin at a long time at a 46 gallon bowfront which is pretty nice too. Lol i wish i could get both. grr... Ill probably end up gettin the 55 gallon H if i can find a stand that matches my room.
