What Should Be My Next Move

Hi kbod :)

This is all you need to get the gravel clean. They come in bigger models, but unless your tank is very high off the ground, this should work. I used one for years before I got enough tanks to make it worthwhile to invest in a Python, which is a long model that hooks up directly to the faucet.

It's basically a siphon that has a large end that can be pushed down into the gravel. It takes a little practice, but once you get used to starting it in the tank it's easy to use. You'll also need a bucket to place on the floor to catch the old water and to refill the tank.

thanks this is what i was looking for will send hubby shopping tommorow

also wheres best to buy api freshwater master test kit around lincolnshire as im at mablethorpe ,ive tried all local pet shops or aquatics theyre sold out or not stocked looked on net average £15.99 - £23. is that right

That sounds about right to me Kbod. If you can get one in a couple of days that will be soon enough. You can keep things going with a 30% daily water change and as long as the fish look alright, it won't hurt to wait a day or two for the kit to arrive. If it will be a week or longer, you might want to look harder locally. Any reputable and even some disreputable fish shop should carry a proper water test kit.

cheers will definatly do water change 2moro

we checked out all of mablethorpe ,hubby went in every shop in skeggy will send him further afield 2moro grimsby

can you answer this for me if im down with a belly bug or virus are fish subseptable to catching anything although obviuosly wash hands could any germs be passed onto them ,thanks

Hi kbod :)

I don't think you have to worry about that.

BTW, if you can't find that test kit, the most important ones are the tests for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. If those are the only ones you can find, you'll still do fine right now.

Hi kbod,

There really are no dumb questions. Fishkeeping is a great hobby once you get used to it, but it's a whole new world for a beginner. :D

Just to say I got my test kit off Ebay as I couldnt find one instore (apart from one for £30!)
Think I paid £17 including postage.

Bit sick really when you think about it how people who run dedicated aqua shops can delibralty give bad advise to kill off fish/plants and increase sales by preying on peoples lack of knowledge. Thank god I found this place before I got into fishkeeping thats all il say!

There are plenty of people selling the API FRESHWATER MASTER TEST KIT on ebay thats were I got mine
