What Pleco Have I Got?

Hi All
I bought this plec from my LFS a couple of months back for £20. They said it was a Royal plec but im not so sure

He looks like a Clown Plec to me LDA67 is is deffo not a Royal plec L190

It could be a clown. Just had a search on Google and it also looks like a tiger Pleco

Its definately a Panaque. LDA01/L169 probably

Yes Jake I think you win the prize, its clear you know your stuff (i don't) so can I ask you about a plec I have its a L074 99% sure, does this plec have a common name?

L74 is the same as an L002, same species with 2 L-numbers so yours will also be called a tiger

I sure Jake is right it is a Tiger pleco which im glad about as they ony get to about 15cm and wont outgrow my tank.
He was kind of an impulse buy as they were labled as Royal Pleco at the LFS and I was sure they wasnt.

I took the photo with my phone. Cant remember if the flash was on

After I had posted I started reading about the L74, the pic in my book is an exact image of mine but Marcs doesn't, juveniles often look different to the adults, and in some cases plecos actualy have two L numbers.
Its not easy being a pleco lover.

Many plecs will look completely different to adults when young, the same goes as adults from the same species can still have variations in pattern... doesn't mean there a different species, just means some got a slight pattern difference. Have a look at hypancistrus species.... most now are just referred to as scribble plecs when an ID isn't confirmed lol.... simply because unless you know catch location some are virtually impossible to correctly ID 100%.

I was just reading that sometimes they are so different that they have been incorectly renamed a new L number
my mistake.
