I change my Rowa approx every six weeks and have always bought Rowa, does anyone use anything else and would you recommend? Would love to find something that does the job well and costs less

I use Pura PhosLock, which is decently priced. Only just started using it a couple months ago, but seems to be doing the job.

TLF-150 reactor and 150g Rowaphos every 5 – 6 weeks for me :good:

im gonna be using tanktests.co.uk phosphate remover alot of people of on UR recommend it and its only 16quid for 1l so worth a try lol

It’s just cost me £22.95 for 500ml of rowa yesterday :grr: , i would like to hear back from you on your findings as at that price it’s quite a saving over the rowa :good:
if you could let us know how long it lasts before needing changed ect then that would be much appreciated

i use the fluval brand of phosphate remover as with carbon. i replace every 4 weeks and only use 1 bag per 100L. its kept my phosphates at zero even when being overstocked and overfed. i also dont bother washing my frozen food so i highly recommend it!

Its cheap too at £6 for 3 bags. (three months worth)

Right, so we now have:

for one month and for a 400 litre (88 uk g) tank

Fluval lab grade 150g will do a 75g US tank for a month about £11
Rowa 500g approx £23 approx half of that for a 400L tank ao, approx £11 (although, im getting through 500 g in approx six weeks)
tanktests phos remover 1000 ml - 500 for a tank my size, cost £16 so approx £8

postage needs to be added if buying online

Rowa info:

Fluval lab grade:

Do we have any other contenders?

Must admit, i'm liking the look of tank tests one

Not sure what Muzzy (Tank Tests) uses in his phosphate remover but I am not keen on the liquid type but I can find out more info if you want?

I would be more inclined to look at his granuals Phos 'n' DOC Remover not sure how XS Phosphate Remover perfoms

Yes was looking at that one too Morri :good:

Must admit if you cant trust Muzzy, who can you trust!!

Um I was also starting to sway towards the tanktests phos as well seffie, but now having taken a look I recon I would need more of the tanktest media than I would rowa. I know it still works out cheaper but I would need to invest in a larger reactor to hold the media, so I have now had a change of plan and I have up rated my sump light to a energy saving S,A,D bulb 75w equivalent to 300w @ 6500k the idea is my macro alga will grow like wild fire and help maintain my phos levels with the reactor in the last chamber just to polish it off and fingers crossed it will not need changed as often.

There is a "LowaPhos" on ebay but not much info anywhere else...

On searching other than direct references to the seller - is a thread on UltimateReef where it comes up in a list of names of a product someone is looking at. The Thread starter is Muzzy (runs TankTest) so unlikely to be related to him (just someone had the same idea for that name).

Not sure what you mean? So he sells LowaPhos *and* all the stuff he lists on tanktests? (XS Phosphate Remober, Phos'n'Doc, Liquid Phosphate Remover etc)

btw. Remember that 1000ml of X product doesn't mean you get 1000g (for granules).

I asked the ones selling LowaPhos how much (in weight) 1000ml was, and they said approx 600g.

Good point :good: I hadn't thought of that. I was looking at the granules though, don't know why but never really been drawn to the liquid - although I believe many big aquariums use it?

Anyone got any experience of it?

Also, thinking of going back to softies in my tank and as I have a few euphyllias will probably need to run carbon as well - has anyone used the phosphate and DOC product?

I suppose what we should really do is buy a massive tub of phosphate remover and spit it between us
