What kinda Bettas are these?

bkk_group you can't get these types of Bettas in Canada? You know what's really funny I had a Betta dream last night too. It was my first Betta dream. I was at this fish store and there were aquariums with all kinds of bettas and I was wanting them all. I woke up though because my boyfriend came to bed and then I was half dazed telling him about it. I don't even think I was making too much sense and then I just fell back asleep

Wuv do you own any smaragdina bettas? Maybe you could send me some pictures? I'm going to go right now and do a search to learn more about them.

Are they placid? Can they live together? Oh well I'm off to go read and I'll probably find out soon

Yeah I think I'll go check them out...I'm curious as all I've ever seen are the regular veiltails. This place is an awesome fish store. It mainly specializes in fish and it has so much variety it's also stacked full of products. I've only been in there once but I swear the night before I knew I was going I could hardly sleep. Then in the morning all I wanted to do was go!!! I was so excited when I walked in the doors ohhh:) I think I have a sickness lol

Just went and found a bunch of pictures...and all I have to say is WOW!! Now I want one!! They are just so different looking and their colors are sooo amazing!!

If I get one I'll probably just get a male as I'm just getting into keeping Bettas and I'm not ready to breed them.

I'm sure if I decide to get more the store will always have them and if they don't they can probably order them. I wanted to go back there soon anyways as I wanted to buy some of those yellow mystery snails. Not sure if that's what they are called in the States? but in Australia (I lived in Australia for awhile) that's what they are called.

I love snails they are so cute!! :*)

I wish! I almost bought some off of Aquabid once, but I decided against it because of housing space reasons. I have some plakats from Singapore who seem to be carrying the smaragdina gene though .It's evident in my latest spawn.

Smaragdina can't live together, nope, nope. But....I think the imbellis can. Wait until bkk comes back,I know he has some imbellis.

Elisabeth83, smaragdina are hard to find in canada as none of the local breeders i know bother with them. of course i have some friends in thailand that breed them but the shipping and transshippers involved (not to mention cost) just give me a headache. one day though....
the wildtype "imbellis" i have do live together in a 5 gallon tank. i have one male and two females, they have never fought and actually hang out together all the time. the reason i put imbellis in quotes was because i still am not satisfied that they are pure. i have documented their headtypes before and asked questions on many international forums regarding them. nothing has so far made me feel better about calling them true wildtype imbellis. having said that, they do indeed have imbellis qualities to them, it's just the shape of their heads that throws everybody off. in fact, i asked marianne (local breeder) to find out more about them from the original breeder in the states (who is not victoria by the way). apparantly, marianne brought up the question during the seattle betta show last month when she ran into her. from what marianne told me, she was almost insulted and became quite upset when their lineage was brought into question

I see in what I read at the articles listed that the imbellis type Bettas are very quiet in nature and can live together. Wow, never thought I'd ever read THAT about a Betta. They sure are nice looking fish. Good luck in your hunting!

ironically enough though, they are also known as "unpredictable" fighters and have been used traditionally in thailand for just that purpose.
i don't recommend two males sharing the same tank, that goes for any species of betta.

Well I went to the fish store today to see the smaragdina and imbellis bettas. They were so small compared to the normal bettas that I am used to seeing. After looking on the net I thought I'd be seeing some really beautiful colored ones but they didn't have any. They were colored but not amazing. One of the guys who works there is known as the Betta guy and he owns just bettas and knows just about everything. They had a couple more types of bettas too wild type ones I can't remember the names though. I didn't buy any but I asked if they always have them and he said not always but if I want some and they are out he can order some in. So I decided to wait. The guy said it was really hard to get in the really beautiful green/red ones...and I joked with him and said that's because you keep them   and he just laughed.

I also went to another store not thinking I'd see anything but the normal veiltails but I was really excited what I saw some round tails. They had males in with males as well as females are they not as aggressive? They didn't seem to mind eachother occasionally 2 males would flare at eachother and then 1 would swim away. I was tempted to get one but I wasn't sure what they were. When I got home I looked them up and read they were round tails. Also there was a betta there with fins like a round tail but his cadual fin was split in 2. Not compleatly split and it wasn't a tear either it was formed like that. Kinda like a heart. I almost bought him because he was such a large betta. His body was compleatly black and his fins were reddy/black and blue.

Also underneath one of the aquariums they had a picture of a Betta with info as if it was in that tank and I asked Oh is that a double tail betta and the lady is like no it's not. Then I see english above the name of it and it says "double tail betta" so I say oh yeah thats a double tail and I pointed it to her and shes like Oh I've never seen those bettas before we've never had them here. Then I said to her well maybe you should take the picture down then and she was like yeah maybe and then didn't. Oh well!!! lol

I ended up just buying a live plant "Cabomba caroliniana" which is really pretty. Also got some water conditioner, fry food, and some Nutra fin cycle stuff. It's supposed to add a lot of benificial bateria to a new tank...does that stuff work? I thought I'd give it a try it sounds good.

bkk_group that's too bad that you can't get your hands on the smaragdina bettas if you like them so much. I wish I could send you some

Wuv I would of bought some today if they were more colorful but the ones I saw today really didn't make me go WOW. Maybe next visit they will of gotten in a better batch. They were quite cute though so small :*) I would love to buy some of your Bettas....here we can get the wild types but not the fancy types that you breed. Oh to get my hands on some of the bettas I've seen on this forum´

Anyways that was my day!!
