I dont remeber too muc about his swimming habits, I do recal him normally swimming around the middle of the tank though, I dont recall him being at the top very often.

tropical as far as I know, he lived with a varity of tropical fish when we got him, so I am assuming thats what he was lol

A balloon ram, maybe? Since you mentioned rams.. A long-finned balloon ram, though that'd be one I've never actually seen..

Does it look like the very bottom picture?

i think its some same of cyprinid

now that could be right on track, my mom did say she recalled whatever kind of fish he was was related to a carp...

balloon ram is the right shape though and if you stuck the longer fins on one lol I have neve heard of a long finned balloon ram, when I look up rams all I get are short finned ones lol

well, how big was it? This is a bit off track of what everyone else was saying, but it could be some kind of varitus possibly if it was really small. That is what the pic reminded me of.

Well I was looking through my book and the nearest I could find was a long tailed golden barb (I think...). Looks cool though.

It could be a long finned baloon ram...but I have NEVER even seen a baloon ram so I think maybe long finned baloon rams would be rather hard to find. I have a long finned ram myself and the dorsal fin is very long and it's ventral fins are just slightly longer than normal.

The colors don't really match up though. The ram will usually have a black dot somewhere, or if she is just keeping him/her alone it would probably show black vertical stress lines from having no company of it's own. Mine did that when his buddy died. :/

I have no clue to what it could be.

I am thinking a long finned balloon ram is possable he was kept with several other fish, sword tails, and angel fish, and some albino corys. it would also explain why I have never seen another one like him before, I believe the fish were from my dads co-worker who made his own tanks, he had a ton in his basment with some really cool and unusual fish, the most memorable tank was really really long at the bottom of his stairs that tank was like 90 gallons at least lol it was HUGE! I believe it was a saltwater reef type tank so pretty, such cool fish lol we had gotten a bird from from him too :p my dad and him had a fight though and they dont talk at all anymore, so just asking my dads coworker is not really an option lol if I ever find another fish like him I would not hesitate to get him, he was absolutly gorgous, the prettiest fish I have ever seen, and I really wish I had taken pictures lol
