What kind of fish is this?

I have searched for an hour trying to find the name of this fish. I used Google image search and have been sorting through small fish pictures. I got this fish at a petstore about three months ago and have been going back every week to try and get more but they haven't got them in since. It is about 1.5 inches and has 6 whiskerlike barbles that are very small. It's eyes can move independently from each other and have a wide range of motion. It digs under stones and wood in the sand and hides under them looking around from the entrance. It is territorial and very fast. It chases all the other fish away from its "den". If anyone can take the time out of their day to help me identify it I would really appreciate it. It's been living by itself for a long time and I feel so bad for it. Once I know the name I can find and order more on the internet.

Looks like a Schistura Loach. Closest I can find is S. corica.

Yet Seriously Fish says this...

“Though not gregarious in the sense of schooling or shoaling fishes it does seem to do best in the presence of conspecifics and provided plenty of cover is available any aggression should be minimal.”

I don’t know much about Schistura. Never kept them. I wonder how big their territories would be. What size is the tank?

Some fish that live in groups need to space themselves apart in their own ‘personal space’.

I have a group of them in my 30 gallon. They don't school, but they aren't aggressive toward each other either. There is some minor chasing at meal time, but they seem to enjoy each other's company. They are a really, really cool fish, and usually not expensive if you can find them. The Wet Spot no longer has them in stock, thanks to me ordering the last two. But I bet you can find some somewhere.

Edit to add: My tank has a LOT of cover--rocks and driftwood. So even though the floor space is relatively small, they can easily get away from each other when they need to. They enjoy current. Soon mine will be moving into a 48x12" tank, and I think they're really going to enjoy the extra space.

Well, your tank looks large enough to have more than just one. They like to hide. But if you're keeping them in a smaller tank, then yes just one would be better. Btw, I love the look of that tank of yours.

OK good to know! I too have lots of cover so I think I will get more if I can find them.
