all but one of my Cories died and I need to get him some more company since he seems insecure and jumpy now. The only problem is that I know they need to be with their own species of Cory and I don't know what that is. I could go back to the same place I got him and HOPE the tank is in the same place but chances are they are moved. I'd rather find out what species he is and try to find them, plus I'm interested. Oh, and if you could tell the gender that would be great. Some pictures are really bad since he was scared and I had trouble getting him to stay still.

Well, I'm sure someone will come along to coreect me, but I'm going to say C154. - Frank

Ok so I'm a super newbie. C154 is that like an abbreviation or is that the actual species name?

Hi. It is basically a numbering system, used to give an identity, for discussion and research purposes, to Corys not yet named by the scientific community. It's a more complex system than that, but that's it in a nut shell. Hope this helps. - Frank

Hi, 55. Quick question for you... i think it's the 7th picture from the top, there's a fish in the background... by any chance is that a Chinese Algae Eater? You mentioned the cory in the pictures lost his friends, and I'm kinda curious why... if it is a CAE, he could be a problem. CAEs are notoriously aggressive fish, especially with fellow bottom-dwellers. They've been known to suck the slime coat off some fish, and go after the eyeballs of others...
And if that's not a CAE... well, never mind! :)

yes it's a CAE, we were talking on another topic and she mentioned that she had one. I've explained the risks and she was hoping to re-home it.

good spotting skills though :good:

Ok thanks I'll go with the leucomelas ID since most of you agree. Yes that is a CAE and I'm going to try to find him a new home. We got him in hopes of him cleaning algae but one look at the rock he's sitting on and you know he failed at that. I think we'll get some snails instead. I just have a hunch no one will want him, Ill see what I can do about that. I don't think he killed them though. Would there have been some noticeable mark on them? Most of them did die pretty suddenly though, did not act sick, except the Angel who did stop eating the night before he died.

Hooray! I got one!

I am awful at IDing fish pics--I may be becoming notorious.

But my first thought was that he looked much like my smaller leucomelas--the ones that were sold to me as punctatus! Well, I am guessing they are luecomelas. haha They are smaller than the wild caught ones I got from Bryan to join them, my two first ever Cories from the lps to go in my first tank ever. They are my darlin pair that have survived it all.
