on mixing goldfish with tropical? currently thinking of adding 2 goldfish to my 60 litre tank?

In a word, no. Goldies can get in excess of 18 inches in length. I'd only ever keep them in a pond. They will become even more messy than usual in a tropical set-up also.

Are you planning on keeping them with anything else? Anything under 8 inches will be dinner for an adult goldie, and I mean ANYTHING...

All the best

yeah the tank currently has neons and algae eaters

If you value them, don't add the goldies :good:

lol yeah i am in a dilema i really odnt know what to do i am just waiting for someone to come and say go for it and see what happens haha :hyper: the worst that could happen is they all die and will have to start again

i will just make sure i am fully prepared for it, will go and buy a stronger filter amd also more air filters to give the tank the best chance of surviving with all the fish, anything else you think i should add?

Your mind is made up, but I can think of something to remove, but nothing to add...... The tropicals you have in there.....

I wouldn't do it, either. It's not a matter of wasting money, either, IMO, but one of being capricious with living things. 60 l is generally small for two goldfish alone. Keep in mind how big they can get - they're almost guaranteed to break six inches, could get to 12, and as stated above, 18 inches isn't impossible for some varieties. They won't stop growing to fit their tank - they'll become stunted and likely die shortly after. They can live twenty or thirty years with proper care.

They're insatiable eaters, and they've got a huge mouth. I've watched a goldfish barely three inches long eat a male guppy. The neon tetras would be doomed.

If you want to make sure you're fully prepared for it, set up a 20, preferably 30 gallon tank with a powerful filter and keep the goldies in that by themselves. If they get huge, even that could prove too small, but you and all your fish, gold and tropical, are in a far better places for it.

I agree but obviously the living creature matter doesnt matter to this person.

is anyone actually heard of successful stories about mixing goldfish n tropical?

Yea.... I've done it, but not with neon tetras and the like.....I had them with 2 x Tinfoil barbs.... 4 x Siver dollars; 4 x Congo tets; (eventually removed my algea eater as he would not let the g/fish alone); 2 x Keyholes; a Deacon; 1 x Sunfish and 2 x Blue Acaras. There were 3 goldfish of about 7" and they all lived in harmony, except that the goldfish turned up mouthfulls of gravel and spat it out after every feeding, thus never had clear water. The tank was 7ft x 2ft x 2.5ft deep.
