i have just brought a jewel rio 400 and in the description it said the corner box had been modified into a weir what is a weir

just looked on google images and i presume its a type of filter but cant tell

Basically, it's a box (typically in a back corner) into which the tank overflows. There are usualy two holes drilled in the back of the tank behind this box, into which the overflowing water runs down into a sump
