What Is This On My Betta?

I was camping for a couple of days and came home to this on my pineapple betta, Maui. Does it just look like an injury to you guys are something else. I like to get 2nd opinions. . @Colin_T what do you think? He’s in a 5G with weekly w’c’s and cleaning. PH 7.5, GH10, KH6, ammonia 0,nItrite 0, nitrate 20 (cleaning day tomorrow.). Just noticed filter quit working too so gotta go get a new one.

Looks like an injury, but I don't know what @Colin_T will say, but do water changes to prevent an infection.

I think I found the culprit. He loves his betta log and there was a piece of gravel stuck to the top of it inside.

Ouch is right.
Do big daily water changes and add salt. If no improvement after a few days then treat with a medication. But try salt and water changes first. It should heal up by itself.

Salt might actually burn his wound. Put salt on an injury when you get injured. Burns like garlic! I lromise you.. never do that... I did that and it burned 10000 times worse than garlic

I’m afraid I’m a big believer in aquarium salt for healing wounds. Make sure it’s dissolved. It acts as an astringent to keep the wound clean. Remember that fish are in water where our skin is not.
