What is the meanest fish you've owned?

A brown puffer or a leaf fish. Currently my meanest is an african butterfly fish or craayfish.

I don't possibly see how a leaf fish could be "mean" aka aggressive. That's my definition of "mean" anyway, not one that gobbles up any tiny fish. Leaf fish are designed the way they are for a reason: evasion, deceit, and to hide. They don't go about picking fights with fish lol. If by "mean" you mean ate a load of small fish, I have to protest, as that's simply in their nature...

We have to make sure by "mean" we're talking about actual fish that are pricks, not just predators acting normally.

Sorry for the rant, nothing personal, I just love leaf fish :p!
Actually the leaf fish i had went around picking fights and attacking any other fish in the tank and yes ate the smaller ones that i gave it but the other gouramis and loaches in the tank were not safe

i currently have a bala shark around 7 inches...hosever the biggest fish i have owned was an oscar which was about 10 inches

I've had a botia modesta pop out his eye spine on me and sliced my finger pretty good. I was moving out of my apartment at the time, so I was trying to transport my fish. That made me hate loaches for a long while actually.

Wow somebody is really good about digging up ancient threads. This thread was started in 2004 almost 4 years ago lol!

anyways... meanest fish I've ever owned believe it or not was a goldfish, it'd kill anything that went into it's tank, eventually I put it into my friends pond to get rid of it. It killed 3 of his koi that were twice it's size so he got rid of it in a cruel way... :rip: little satan goldfish.

It wasn't a fish it was an apple snail. One morning whilst doing a head count, I noticed a neon tetra missing. Looked all day couldn't find it, then noticed the snail all bunched up but couldn't see what it was doing. So I shone a torch on it. The f****r started to charge at me (yes I know it's a snail) It really scared me!!!!

At first I thought it may have killed the neon (I was naive)

I speculated that it either snuck up on it in the middle of the night, or it climbed to the of the tank, waited till the neon passed by and jumped on it (it used to "parachute" down all the time from the top of the tank. v funny)

Mine would have to be my old kenyi, it took me forever to figure out who was killing all of the other fish, it became pretty apparent when I only had a few left and he was in the middle of killing another. But out of the ones I have now I would say my convict. Although my BP bites me lol.

Had a bunch (have two left) of Silver Tip tetras - harrassed one another to death, nastiest tetras I have ever owned and Im well aware they are only a 'community' species due to their size, NOT their nature... but these guys were awful, they would hound one of the group till it went all thin and died, then start over again.

I tossed them in the big tank when I had a small tank emergency, (moved contents of a 3ft x 1ft into a 2ft x 1ft totally unplanted tank and did not like the chances of my blue eyed rainbows without the plant cover), and let them take their chances with my m. dayi spiney eel... three didnt make it. Three did, and they had to be pretty tough because he would hit ANYONE new in the tank (leaving smaller fish hed grown up with, but targetting anyone who behaved 'new'). (Hes gone back to teh fish shop now as i have moved away from bitey eaty fish, great eel though!)

The really out and out NASTY pasty was my spiney eel 'Ellis'.. probably a colour variation on a tire track or similar (turd brown, v few markings at all)..

Hed size up your hand (and come out of the water to get it, hard and then rag you like a terrier would a rat), he would size up my MASSIVE male cat who would watch him through the tank, you could see both fish AND cat were thinking 'ill eat you...' and Im not too sure who'd have won tbh..

He would as expected, eat anything that would fit in his mouth, but UNexpectedly.... well he tried to eat a 16 inch common plec, he kept it in a corner of the tank and whenever the mood took him would attempt to eat it...

Thats sort of like a human trying to eat a big truck....

This one's easy. I have a Redtail catfish Tiger shovelnose hybrid. 3 months ago he was a cute little 3" dude swimming around minding his own business...then one day he ate all my wifes 10 neons. I took him out of the community tank, and put him in the New World Cichlid tank. 1 month later and now 6" long he ate my 5" Pleco. Now he is in a big tank with a 12" pleco, 10" Iridescent Shark and an 11" gar...however after 4 months he has gone from 3" and is now 9"...and still growing and with everyday he gets more and more bad tempered.

This guy is a stone cold killer...eating anything the tiniest bit smaller than himself. He is nocturnal and eat the others as they sleep. I've been told he won't stop growing until he is 30-36" long...and that's only about 18 months away. If there is a meaner fish out there...I bet it's living free and wild in the ocean...and I'm thinking shark or barracuda.

My meanest fish was a M. Auratus 3 of them which ruled my tank and kill a few fish, also my CAE they killed 8 guppies and the females they sucked the babies out of their bellys. ...

A bright pink female zebra named Shirley... she was the only survivor a some sort of wasting disease I only see occasionally online. The only thing she didn't kill was my cory cat. She's dead now, the snails ate her corpse, and her bones. I hope.

my Cobra Pike is pretty mean. He is in his own tank now although with an Ornate Bichir and Eupterus that is a pain in my other tank

He is a beautiful looking fish though

a young malawi i had a while back..were quite a few in the tank but he ended up killing the other i bought him with.Traded him in, in the end

a sexed pair of serpa tetras.they killed each other the first night!!!
