Today I went tot he LFS and went down their many rows of tanks and was actually quite disappointed. I've recently seriously been looking into getting an larger tank length wise but as I walked down the aisles and looked at the 50s the 75 and even the hundreds I was greatly disappointed with the selection. Currently my tank is about 36 inches longs and about 12 deep and 18 high. Looking at the tanks in the store they were wider and indeed taller but few were significantly longer than mine. Just out of curiosity could you guys please post your tanks size in gals and in measurement (pef. in inches.)

55G x 2 = 4' each tank
30G Long = 3'
29G = 30"
45G Long = 4'

Yeah....I know the feeling....my LFS either has really long tanks or really short stumpy ones.

My 30gal is 2 and a 1/2 foot
My 75gal is 4 ft
My 10 gal is 1 and a 1/2 foot
My 6gal is 1ft

I like my 75 being long as well as wide....gives the fish lots or surface area to swim in

Well I've got the money for a tank around 55- 75 because they have been going for under a hundard resently in the local buy and sell (including a stand and usually filters). But I've got silver dollar type fish that need the length and not really the width and I'm not thinking of getting any fish larger than that.

My tank has exactly the same measurements as yours. 36"x12"x18". What a coincidence. :p

30gal,3 foot
20gal,2foot
10 gal. 18 inches/1.5 feet
hex tank, six inches each side

I tend to put width over length, a 8 foot tank that is only 12 inches wide can still only house fish up to around 8 inches long comfortably. My two largest tanks are 205 and 80 gallons, the dimensions are as follows.

205g 66x30x24" (LxWxH)

80g 48x20x24 (LxWxH)

The larger width of these tanks gives them more surface area which allows for faster gas exchange and heavier stocking which suits me better as i keep larger fish.
