ok i red buddy's receipt and it says male betta 2.5" ,ok so i messured him and he is close to 3 inches is this giant or am i werid. i always thought him to be bigger than the other male i have and they are both from petco.

i beleive that a true giant is upwards of 7 inches (body length, not tail) and half giants are 3.5 inches. jim sonnier has some good info on his website, but i don't have it bookmarked! :D

but would 3" be a half giant because this guy is big he isnt as little as i thought..yeah i read about 7 inch bettas..my mom wants one lol!

One more time, this time with feeling...(the search function is an incredible tool. You might want to try it for questions like this!)

Bettas have indiscriminate growth. a 3" betta is either an older betta or a young half-giant or Giant.

Half giants are 3.5+ inches full grown. Giants are 7+ inches full grown.

The person in the US that has been working with them the most is, to my knowledge, Jim Sonnier. He had some for sale last year, maybe he still does now. Otherwise, just keep an eye out on Aquabid.

Some of the old ones are very jumpy, too. I had a betta that had to have been well over a year when I got him, probably closer to two, and he met his death nearly a year later jumping out of his tank.

Behavior isn't always the best way to tell age in a fish, although sometimes it can be an effective tool.

My friend has a betta that is close on four inches... I've always thought it was just old but it's younger than one of her others who is about half his size... I've searched everywhere for giant bettas with no success and my friend got hers unknowingly for $8.00 at the LFS. Figures.

EDIT: Wrong link. :*)

Wow....... Thats a biiiigggg betta  How cool would a giantxgiant spawn be? *coughbreederslookonaquabidpleeesecough*

Giant x Giant = Giant.
...... WAY COOL!!!
I've wanted one ever since I first saw them on Jim Sonnier's site. Alas, they're pretty expensive and rare at the moment.

3 inces is not a half giant. just one big betta. You arent measuring fins right?
