Came in a bag with a load of other bits I just got.

Assuming its some form for filter or air pump. Its a metal barrel a 2 1/2 inches diameter, at one end is a filter type foam and a ring of rubber points (assumed this end sits face down), on the other end the cable comes out and has an adjustable knob (airflow)

Never seen this kind of thing before and dont know what I can do with it! I am a newbie so it may be a common bit of kit!

Cheers

Might be a piston driven air pump??? If so, they're a lot better than the diaphram ones in my opinion. I like mechanical things. :p Never seen one myself, but from what I hear, they're very expensive. So I wouldn't risk putting it in the bathtub to see if it works underwater. Try outside of the water first.

have posted pics in the 'Members Aquarium Pictures' forum

Thanks for your help, it does work out of water, blows air out of the top jet so must be sucking it in though the filter pad.

found a small instruction sheet in the bottom of the box, beneath the polystyrene holder!!!

It is an air pump, not a submersible filter. I'm happy thats all sorted! and glad I didnt try it in the bath! it really didn't look to be submersible.
