Hi - my first fish tank is now fully stocked but I am wondering if there is a slightly bigger fish I can get that wouldn't have it's fins nipped by the smaller fish, or eat them!

My tank is a Juwel Rekord 800 which is 800mm x 350mm x 450mm (or 31'' x 14'' x 18'') (110l or 29US gallons) and has been running for a little while now. I used substrate from an old biorb I had along with the filter sponge. This has helped keep ammonia and nitrite readings at zero (since my test kit arrived about one week in). pH is 8 and temperature is 24C. It is fairly well stocked with plants and I have more on order - I want a really well planted tank and am getting reflectors to aid with the stock lighting Juwel provided.

Currently I have:
3 zebra danios
2 albino danios
5 tiger barbs (very well behaved - no fin nipping what so ever)
2 american flag fish (one male one female - the male is a little bit of a bully but he's only half hearted about it)
5 platys

I am considering adding one more fish only - if there is a suitable bigger fish that will fit in happily with the above. Are there any suggestions or should I be happy with what I have got (which I am  )?

Most would probably say you are already stocked with all the tank can handle, but I have successfully kept more than the recommended amount of "fish per gallon". Key thing is to keep it cleaned regularly and change the filter media. With the Platies, do you know how many male to female ratio you have? You could soon have 100's of little baby Platies swarming your tank! LOL Anyway, you might consider an Albino Bristlenose (bushy nose) Pleco as they are interesting to watch, a great "one man clean-up crew", and don't get nearly as large as the common Pleco. Mine is constantly on the move, I don't think it ever stops! LOL

I had been wondering about the platys. I've 3 females and 2 males so I'm sure lots of little ones are on the way! I'll see how the tank looks when the extra plants I bought arrived. Can't help thinking it'd be nice to have a nice big fish though ;)

What about just one gourami? Two or more may fight. A pearl would get quite big and are hardy and very peaceful.

I like the sound of that - saw some in my LFS and it looked suitable. Is there anything else that is really colourful to consider?

Tank seems to be 18 inches high so maybe an angel of some sorts?, not entirely sure how it would work with the barbs but im sure it would be fine.

I'd love an Angel fish of some variety but would all my current fish be safe from it? Also would it be happy on it's own or would I need two and if that's the case is my current tank big enough?
