What I Need...

I have made a list of the things I think I need to breed bettas, am I correct?

1. a pair of younger bettas from a good breeder.
2. Housing tanks.
3. Dechlorinator, ammonia and nitrite elliminator(Amquel), fish protector(Novaqua), anti-whitespot(Aquarisol).
4. Treatments(Maroxy), antibiotics(Tetracycline).
6. Fish nets.
7. 10 gal or 5 gal spawning tank.
8. Corner filter.
9. Small Air Pump.
10. Tubing and valve.
11. Heater.
12. Foam cup.
13. Chimney glass.
14. Plants.
15. Plant weights.
16. Tank cleaner (bottle).
17. microworm culture.
18. Brine shrimp eggs.
19. extra valve and T joint for air.
20. 1/2 gal jar to hatch brine shrimp.
21. Jars for male Bettas.
22. Big tank for Female bettas.

a way to keep the males you have jarred warm. placing them in a very small room witha heater, a reptile heat mat under the jars, or placing the jars in a shallow plastic container that has a heater and filter running in it will all keep the jars warm enough.

Ok, do I need anything else?

as long as your filter wont suck in the fry you seem to have everything. the bare min I would use as a spawning tank is a 10 though. my sister and I have always used a 20 or a 20long. the extra space seems to make the adults less agressive during spawning and the extra space means you dont have to move the babies around as much when they are super tiny.

Make sure that your filter will not suck up the fry.

Well done for getting yourself really well organised first Josh

For the chimney....it doesn't need to be glass. Just get an empty 2ltr coke bottle and cut the top and bottom off. The spawning tank should only have about 6" of water so have the chimney at least 3" above the water level.

Ok, thanks, how much will all this cost, because as you may or may not know I am only 14 and make my pocket money on Ebay

You're biggest outlay would be the sponge filter and pump, Jars or containers for separating fry into, tank for spawning and the growout tank but if you get them second hand or for free then the rest shouldn't cost too much. If you're on ebay alot have a look and see if you can get some of the things cheap on there too.

The tanks are going to be the biggest problem because of transport and Barnsley not having a lot of fish-keeping people...

Will take a lot of begging.

I've only just realized, I've planned all this but I haven't asked anybody if the place of where I'm wanting to put it all is suitable.

The place being the loft...

The loft should be fine as long as it's got good lighting so you can see what you're doing. Plus how easy is it going to be to take buckets of water up the the water changes.

Is it in a loft conversion or just normal loft?

Its a converted loft, got plenty of lighting, the only problem will be getting the tanks up there, I'm going to measure the hole, 1 sec...

The hole is 50cm x 58cm...

Thats rather small...

that's not very big is it lol unles you get a tank that's long and narrow.
