I don't use chat rooms so I can't really comment on that. Not my thing really.
As Dave Spencer says. I started on this forum and although I only tend to post within the planted or DIY sections I occasionally take a 'sneaky peek' into other sections.
Even though I like Dave moved onto plant specific forums I owe most of my knowledge to this site and therefore feel obligated to pay my dues. Therefore I still come here and enjoy being 'knowledgable'
With regards to posts I don't mind answering the same question many times but if I can see it is clearly pinned or that there are 3-4 threads with the same question in their title all on the first page of threads then sorry. You will be ignored. If you can't use your eyes (no search needed here just move your mouse wheel down) then I have no time for you.
Also threads titled 'please help' or 'advice please'. You will be lucky if I even open the thread. Again if you really need help or advice then you wouldn't be so lazy.
As I said I mainly use the planted section and I will post to anyone who asks relevant questions and shows that they aren't relying just on information from others without having a little look themselves first. Sometimes I won't post in a thread because I can see someone else is giving all the right answers and therefore there is no need for me to post. If I see bad advice creep in then I will certainly jump in and correct it. I even post that I admitted being wrong recently when I corrected someone on something and then later found out that they were correct all along. I can still learn and am happy to do so.
Another thing that gets my goat is someone asks for advice (lighting is a good one), several of us give it, they say no I can't do that what else can I do, we tell them, they say No I can't afford that. Then it ends up with the OP ignoring the advice and basically telling the knowledgable how he/she will do it. Why ask the question only to ignore all advice and stick to their guns.
So in summary. I answer anything worthy. I respond to people who are prepared to learn but not to those who think they are going to get a full instruction sheet to follow.
