What Fish Should I Get?

Hi,

I have a small 40 litre tank with no fish in it, since I upgraded to a bigger tank and put them all in that one. I'd like some advice on which fish to stock the smaller tank with now though. I'd like to make it different to my big tank, which has danios, clown loaches, corys, shrimp and flying foxes. The only fish I know i want in the smaller tank are 2 otocinclus.

Ideally I'd like some colourful fish that won't eat the otocinclus, and obviously they can't grow too big as it's a small tank. I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions!

Oh on a side note, the tank has been left with the filter off for about a couple of months. Will it still be cycled if I just turn the filter back on and give it a water change?

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve

Unfortunatley your tank will no longer be cycled if the filter has been off for some time. You may be able to seed the filter from the filter in your new tank.

I would suggest adding some dwarf puffers, not amazingly colourful, but they do have great characters, given the size of your tank you could probably get 3 to 4 in the tank along with some otos and even a couple of dwarf african frogs. the dwarf puffers need to be fed either live or frozen bloodworm. any lef by the puffers will be clared up by the frogs.

the tank should have plenty of planting and caves to stop any aggression between the puffers.

I agree with oscar about the puffers because i have 6 in a 70litre community tank but one thing is one of them is getting a bit nippy as he is going for fish like angel fish and glass cats but i think hes just claimed an ornament as his territory, but over all there nice fish.
