I went to the store clerk yesterday and told my story (owner wasn't there) about returning my bully gold gourami, the store clerk is going to help me out. Needless to say both gourami are sitting on my desk in a bowl right now at work waiting to be returned and I feel horrible about it. They keep looking at me.

Returning them at lunchtime and after work going to get some small angels and see if I will have better luck. I have done my research and know they can be aggressive, but everything seems to be a gamble doesn't it?

DO ANY OF YOU HAVE A SUGGESTION ON A BETTER CHOICE?

I have 46 gallon, fully cycled
looking for two PEACEFUL fish that grow to be about 5 or 6 inches and have a little color to them (don't have to be a lot)

Tank mates are marbled loaches, bristle nose, red tetras, ghost cats, 3 dwarf gouramis and a male betta. My betta is a very wonderful mellow fish and gets along with all fish. The gouramis are going back because the male wouldn't stop chasing him and then when I removed the betta, started harassing my other fish.

As always, you guys are very helpful here and your advice is much appreciated

How big are the red tetras? And I'd be very aware of the Angels possibly shredding the Betta's tail. I've heard of it happening before.

Its hard to get anything which wont chase a male betta. One large fish we have normally has a bad reputation but is very placid.
Its an Black knife ghost fish imo a stunning fish and he even eats out of the palm of our hand.

They are almost impossible to breed at home and like little hiding spaces to start with.

Once they get to know the tank and the other fish they will be out swimming all the time.
Most are 5-6" but they have been known to grow to 15-16" in larger tanks.

Iam not in any way biased  but my advice is rehome all your current fish and get mbuna!

Thanks for your suggestons. A BGKN is on my list someday when I get a much bigger tank. I went with two little angels, (mainly cuz I didn't see these replys before I went to the store) And so far so good. They and the betta pretty much ignore each other...this is good. I hope it stays that way. I got a marbled and a silver...so cool lookin. :good:

I'd keep a very close eye on them things can change very quickly and go wrong.

Have a back up tank ready or even better just put the betta in a tank of his own then you don't have the risk.

ive never known bettas and gouramis to get along very well. and slow moving fish with large fins will be an issue with the betta.
