I need some help to decide which fish to go with next, first a bit of history though;

I have been keeping Tropical fish for many years and have had the following (as far as memory serves);

Community (the usual suspects...plecs, angels, tetras etc etc).
Piranhas (very messy but good fun)
Puffas (strange little creatures)
Oscar
African Cichlids (Malawi)

I have recently had to move and donated my tank and equipment to a friend of a friend but have decided that I cannot live without a tank, the problem is I dont know what to go with next, the setup I would like is a good planted tank. I have a 3 foot tank with a Fluval 305 external filter (excellent purchase from EBay!).

I am leaning towards another community tank unless anyone has any good (serious) ideas??????

Cheers :good:

Get a couple of arowanas they do get big and you need to feed them crickets, mealworms, waxworms, ect. But they are absolutly amazing to watch.
Its also a good idea to check if the place you get them from will take (or better buy) them back if they get to big. but u have had experience with oscars and pirannas and they get pretty big.

Are you a complete muppet arowanas grow to the same size as his tank and need to be kept in very large tanks. So no an arowana can not be kept at all in a 3ft tank. Mine is a foot long already and is only 11 months old. Also silve dollars are to big for a 3 foot tank. Why not setup a brackish community tank! :good:

i know they get big but u can upgrade especialy if you are experienced with fishkeeping and where i get my fish from they will take the fish back when they get too big in exchange for smaller fish. people who buy big tanks and want big fish to go in them will galdly by the fish from the shop as they cant be bothred growing them themselves.
but if you dont want to or dont have the room, money, time ect then fair enough.

nice, i think when i get older and get the funds im going to try and get a big tank and raise an arrowana. but that wont be possible for at least ten more years :lol:

I take your point about Arowanas but I dont see the point in buying a fish that will either cost me a couple of hundred pounds within the first couple of years or I will have to take bck to the shop.

Not sure yet but Angel fish may be an option (if the missus gets her way anyway), used to have a large Angel called Dav and he had so much character it was like having an aquatic dog!

Angel fish are great. what about a Butterfly fish for an odd ball? i have one of these with my large angel and he is great, kinda looks like a small arowna but with butterfly wings.
