What Fish For My New 242 Litre Tank

ha ha cool closing down sales..... i'd have been there in a shot with Ian's wallet :D

Heaps of ornaments and all going very cheap................I forgot to mention that I also purchased a nice bell small around 10cm height and 6cm diameter) to match the tank......

This is getting serious now..........SCARY..better hide the wallet, de-memorise the credit card number..........and go for therapy (to which I will need the wallet and credit card back again to pay for the consultation).

Its a vicious circle !!! :hyper:

your telling me

i thought we had out mts cracked, we were on the verge of closing down a tank or two....... decided to invest some more money in them instead

mts is a very nasty disease that commonly affects fish enthusiasts, you should watch out for it i think your a prime candidate

it stands for multiple tank syndrome ;)

to say we had it cracked, i thought we'd cured our addiction..... but sadly not

if you want to keep maintenance to fortnightly then you should stock roughly 1" per 1.5 gallons then from there keep an eye on your nitrate levels, if they regularly come above 40ppm (assuming your tap water isn't high in nitrate) then you need less fish or more maintenance.

ok my comments on your proposed stocking, firstly it's too much, you need to go for less species and better groups of them

(2 X Clown Loaches)
(1 X Bristlenose Catfish)
(1 X Peppered Catfish)

ADD

1 X Peppered Catfish
2 X Zebra Loaches
4 X Threee-Line Cory
2 X Verniculated Synondonitis
8 X Helequin Rasboras
2 X Pearl Gourami
2 X Zebra Barbs

you should keep clowns in bigger groups really, i'd get another, but bear in mind as they get bigger they will massivley eat into your stocking, however they're very slow growing so you should be able to either reduce the stocking in this tank or get them another bigger one in a few years before it becomes a problem.

i'd stick to just 1 sort of cory and get a group of at least 6. They'll be much happier. As others have said, get less species and better groupings, honestly it'll look loads better and your fish will be happier.

I wouldn't put gourami's and barbs together, as others have said they'll get nippy.

Your also quite bottom heavy, especially bearing in mind the amount of space the clowns will need as they grow, what I'd do from that list is

3 clown loaches
6 cories
8 harlequin rasboras
2 pearl gourami's

I know that might not seen like a lot of fish for that size tank but it's all I'd put in there unless your prepared to step up the maintenance to weekly.

If I dont want the Rasboras, what other fish could I add to your list Miss Wiggle and also how many?

thanks again

virtually any other tetra, rasbora, danio or other smallish schooling fish if your wanting something similar but just not harlequins

or you could go with something like a nice group of cories, small loaches or otto's

or another pair or trio of fish like ram's or apistogramma's.

really got loads of choices, depends what sort of thing your after!

a type of apistogramme, a dwarf new world cichlid

pics here or one of the species, there are other colour variations but you get the general idea!

lovely little fish, peaceful stay quite small, relativley hardy, beautiful colouring. they make a lovely addition to a community tank IMO. :good:

Rams arent peacful! They can be aggressive and are territorial,. Having said that they are great fish. I have a pair and they look great!!

make sure you get a m/f apir and not 2 m they will fight

i've never experienced any agression with rams, however in the last week or two i've seen a few threads saying people's rams have been aggressive

:dunno:

maybe i've just been lucky!!

I think if you only keep a pair m/f and they have enough room your ok! I have ahd no problems with mine..........

But they can and will be aggressive when spawning which they do easiyl

O'K so as per my signature, these are the fish I currently have............

Based on previous posts, I like the idea of having less special and more shoals.....

How do the following added fish then sit with my tank.........

ADD

2 Dwarf Gourami m/f
2 Cockatoo Dwarf cichlid (crested dwarf)
1 Peppered Catfish
4 Emperor Tetras

get more peppered cories, they like groups of 6+
check the m/f ratio and how many you should keep for the cockatoo's..... can't remember exactly but i don't think they are best in pairs
