What Fish Can I Put In My Tank

Bought myself a 30 litre tank (not massive) but enough to get started. Im loving it i have had it just over a week and got my first two fish in it two mollies. Just wanted to know what are good fish to have with them. I never thought having tropical fish would be interesting but its great just regretting i didnt get a bigger tank. cheers from a converted tropical fish lover

yeah i did do that took water samples to the shop all good thanks.

platys and guppys are good for a 30l and they go well with mollies, although u will get a lot of babys, maby its best for a 30l to get all females other wise you will get more fry than you can home and handle. also a male dwarf gourami (a peaceful one) could add a bit of interest also could herliquins.

Hi, small tanks are quite difficult to run especially for a novice. you are very restricted as to the size/amount of fish that will be happy in it.
2 Mollies will grow to a total of around 4" which means you only have space for about 2" more of adult sized fish.

Mollies also like a slight salt water (brackish) but can be kept in fresh. They would be happier in a larger tank so my suggestions are based on returning your Mollies to the LFS.

For your sized tank I would suggest a (one) Betta (siamese fighter) providing your tank has been properly cycled and does not have a strong current.

Or maybe 3-4 Pigmy Cory and 4 Endlers.

Basicaly, any small shoaling fish but not too many. With small tanks frequent water changes and good filtration are a must (as with all tanks actually but small tanks do not allow for mistakes)

thats more a unfull cycle, for a 30l it sometimes best, u do a week cycle so it can acomodate 2" of fish then every 28 days u can add 2" more. its an okay way to do it, but not the best for the fish

From what I hear there's no evidence that he's done any cycling, he's just said he took water into the lfs, doesn't mean he's cycled it.

My first tank was a small 20L. It now houses 5 shrimp & 6 neon tetra I also had a few larger fish in there 2 (While their new home was being made) I listened 2 everything i was told of everyone In the end I realised not everything worked for me. I did water changes every 2 days(rather than weekly) and my fish were great . The larger fish were put in a bigger tank and are still very much alive. I clean my filters weekly and my tanks every 3-4 days, I have 3 tanks and it takes me about 30 min to do em all.
U can have a small tank ( with appropriate sized fish in it) I wouldnt say its harder 2 look after , but it is far more rewarding to see them swimming around in a larger tank tho. Good luck. keep up the water changes and u will do well.

Thanks its going well, that is what im doing at the moment im water changing every 2 days for now still only got my two mollies they look as happy as a fish in water.Water testing every day all looking good so far touch wood.But i am going to invest in a bigger tank in the next couple of weeks looking between 75l-100l tank but going to go to a decent shop rather than PET CITY which i done this time and didnt get good advice, but been doing loads of reasearch on the net which has really helped and getting replys like this.I think some people forget we all arent Tropical fish experts straight away.

Thats ok, I felt like that when i first joined, but it is a vey usefull site and most people are very nice and will help u all the way. I think allot of decisions we make are on impulse then we think about them later and realise we should have done a little research before getting into this sort of hobby. I didnt have much choice my 20L was a birthday pressie for my 7 year old complete with fish, with in 4 weeks i had bought my second tank, last week I bought another 1 to put my ACF in, with a lovely Sponge Bob Square Pants decor (my son) I hope all works out for you

Thanks just ordered my new tank 90l my mollies will need a map! I have had some really good advice on here, so when it arrives HOPEFULLY i can get it right this time. My kids love the tank so hopefully with the new one and more fish they will think this is great.
