Hi, I just got a 42 gallon tank. I am wanting to have one of the less common types that are endangered. It really ticks me off that conservationists, scientists and governments dont to anything. It is really up to hobbyists to keep the species alive.
I am considering betta persephone, but would love other suggestions

EDIT: I would like to make it clear that I am not doing this just to be able to say I have a rare fish. I genuinely care about what is happening to these animals

I wouldn't do Betta persephone in a tank that large. Something like macrostoma would do fine in a 42-gallon.

Would betta persephone be good in a 10?

Could you explain why a larger tank is not ideal? I was always under the impression that bigger is better :)

They'll be prone to hiding and they may have a difficult time finding food.

Assuming that you want to breed endangered species, such as B. persephone, in a large aquarium, it will be extremely difficult. While they may breed in a 42 gallon, raising the fry in that size aquarium would be considered to be a challenge as you might not know where they are and whether they're eating or not. Depending on the scape and stocking, they may hide 24/7 (like I said above) and may not come out.

Instead of Betta persephone, how about Betta patoti or Betta chloropharynx for the 42?

I have looked it up on seriously fish. It's a possibility:)

Man I am excited

I hope you have the best of luck with it! Keep us updated if you do!
I will! I am definitely going to get one that needs conservation, just not sure which one yet! Now to bug the parents to take me to lowes to get cinderblocks and wood for a stand :)

What about that 4 tank shelf you wanted? Did they ever say if you could get that?

Just imagine, 4 whole tanks of endangered species

That would be amazing, we decided against it because it was quite a long drive away and they were charging more than the petco dollar per gallon price. Also all that weight would have had to go in the garage :( I wanted it in my room. This tank was free!
