What else can i feed my fish other than boring fish flakes? I feed my dwarf frog frozen bloodworms every other day which the fish eat aswell, is there any thing else they like? Fish i have are listed below. Thanks

hi,
brine shrimp, cucumber, blanched de shelled peas, cooked peeled prawns blanched, spinach.
im sure ive missed some :S

Hi

Thanks for that! Might give em some cucumber then for a little treat, see if they like it. Do i just cut a little chunk so it floats to the bottom? Will it be ok for my frog?

cucumber will float! If you want to feed it to your plecs then I, personally, usually put a tea spoon through the slice of cucumber ( quite a big slice ) and after a day or two, remove it...

Your Molly and Platies also like to have vegetation in their diet... You can buy spirilunar ( I doubt thats how you spell it )algae flakes..

Mollies and platies will go wild over the peas as recommended by Donna; also over spinach, sprouts, broad beans, broccoli etc. And the plecs would probably enjoy a cabbage leaf as well.

my head and tail light tetras love peas too. in fact, they seem to like them more than my plattys who dont usually seem too interested!

My fish love beefheart, along with frozen brine shrimp. When I had african dwarf frog, they'd swim to my hand every time I had tubifex - if you get frozen or freeze dried, and break it up in the water, your frogs will eventually start to be more daring, and come up to your hand as well :)

I give mine blood worms and this thing called community feast, its frozen meat, shrimp, blood worms etc that comes packaged from the LFS.

The BN and snail get their cucumber/zuchini/lettuce/carrot/potato and the other fish get some peas soaked in garlic.

At night I also pop in some sinking pellets for the BN and cory.

Go to your LFS, they will show you what they have in their freezer for fish.

P.S mine refuse flakes now because they have been far to spoilt on the good tasting stuff.

You want to be careful with beefheart as that can lead to longterm health problems; most fish aren't really designed to deal with animal protein, and can get problems with fatty degeneration.

Well lastnight i put in a bit of cooked carrot and they just werent interested! Then i tried a frozen pea and the plecs loved it but just cudnt eat it? They were sucking on it for ages! Still has not been eaten though. My boyfriend was eating sardines out of a tin lastnight so i thought maybe i will try some of that too and they ALL went mad over it!! :good: Might just give them a bit of that as a treat now and then! Dont know what else too try really.

There are so many foods you can feed your fish it's hard to figure out whats best a mixture of dried, live & frozen is probably best for your standard home fish it gets far more serious when dealing with monster fish. Cucumber would be a much appreciated addition for the Plec.

what sort of plecs are they? they have quite varied dietry requirements, some eat veg, some wood, some meat etc.

They are common plecs i think

ok as this topic is about food i'll mostly stick to that.... but just incase you don't know they're gonna get to a foot long each and will need a massive tank eventually.

but as for feeding them, they'll definately appreciate cucumber in they're diet, also try algae wafers and catfish pellets.
