What Do You "dislike" Most About

For me, the main downside is lack of funds. I am typing up a cover letter for a local business as we speak though. ^_^

Also, another irritating thing is when people assume they're more knowledgable than others just because they happen to have been born before the other person. The older person often has no fishkeeping experience.

And it sucks when fish pass away, or when you see badly kept fish in a persons' tank or in an LFS and you can't rescue them.

I don't have anything i really dislike about fish keeping i guess...This is the way i see things though at the mo;
a. I keep a lot of livebearers(platies, guppys mainly), they are always breeding, so i generally rehome a few every couple of months to prevent them from inbreeding. Some people would get really upset about this. The only bit i don't like about this is not knowing if they are going to get good homes or not at the lfs i take them to. But when i get around to getting another 125gal i plan on putting all the excess males in the other tank and just stocking up on some really good fry-eating fish, so i hope this issue of rehoming the fish will be solved.
b. I don't have money, space, lack of gallons or bad fish stocking etc issues at all. But it has been taking me ages to get my new tanks, and the room still isn't ready for them, so i guess thats somthing that i've found a bit disapointing recently.
The only thing i dislike though about fish keeping that i can actually think of at the mo is when my fish need their weekly water changes done in their tanks and i'm too tired or busy too :| .

I don't have a problem with culling/euthanasia, if a fish is too sick for a decent chance of recovery, then surely its a good thing and somthing you should feel better about, and if you have to many fry or somthing like that, well...I guess the best thing then is to catch 'em while they are tiny, and too small to realise whats going on etc. What sort of situation/s do you cull your fish in?

The only things I dislike about fishkeeping is the fact that I still can't get the really big tanks I wanted even after moving due to the missus wanting to pop out a kid or two, one of which will subsequently be housed in the room I tried claiming as "my nice, new, spaceous fishroom". She didn't take too kindly to my suggestion of housing the kid in the lounge, laundry, toilet or shed till it's 25

The second pet peeve is the lack of marine stuff near where I live. It seriously sucks having to travel 2 hours for stuff.

The third thing that ticks me off is the tossers you get in the lfs around here. They don't have a clue what I am talking about but go along as if they deal with what I am asking for every day of the week. If you don't know what something is, etc then heck, just say so and learn something for the day instead of bullsh****g me about and saying check again next week, we might have some in then when I know full well that there is no way known you are going to just "happen upon them" in the week to week order and it would have to be specially ordered in!
It is morons like this that make me sit there after ringing and say to myself "Why the heck did I just waste my time calling? I should have just gone in and dealt with em face-to-face where they can't blow it off because they are too lazy to take a scientific name and ring the damn supplier".

All the lfs's near me are pretty poor, but its not ignorant people that get to me- i can easily put up with ignorant people as long as they are willing to learn, as when it comes down to it we were all newbs once when it comes to fishkeeping. But what does get me is stupid/lazy people. For example; in my main lfs(the one and only one in my town), there's a lady there who's been working there for months. One day while she's scooping out some fish, i ask her if i can have 3 female guppys. She asks me which are the male ones and which are the female ones. I point to the 2 guppy tanks, one which says "female guppys" and the other "male guppys" :X  - i mean, you would at least expect the staff to read the labels on the tanks after a couple of months  ? I further have to explain the difference between the males and females, which seemed to go straight through her empty head.
The other thing i really hate about my lfs is that the plastic transport bags they use are really narrow, and whenever they put fish in them they literally have to scoop them out of the nets before dropping them in the bags, which im sure is highly stressful for the fish. I often insist on catching my own fish there and often do, as the staff have no fish catching abilitys whatsoever -_- . Oh! Another thing i really hate about my lfs, while im on a rant, is that they never have the meds or fish supplies i need. Twice now have i gone down there in a row and they still havn't stocked pimafix, melafix, interpet "flora boost", daphinia, large size bottles of dechlorinator(the puny ones they sell last only a month or so with my uk 125gal tank :X ) and fine white silica sand etc despite me asking them if they can get them in stock with the reply of "sure", and then only to go there again and they still havn't got them.
They never medicate their sick fish.
They don't sell tanks above 40gals, but plenty of fish that need 100gal tanks. The staff are severely/seriously under-knowledged.
The owner/manager is hardly ever there, and certainly never there when you need him.
The place smells really bad because of all the dog food like pig and cow trotters, hooves and ears baking in the sunlight of the shop window every day.
They sell those horible "complete goldfish set ups" that are only a 1gal plastic tub with gravel a fake plant.
The bettas, male and female, get shoved into whatever tank is available whatever fish it has in it- numerous times have i seen bettas(both male and female) in tiger barb tanks and agressive cichlid tanks.
They sell tiger barbs, silver dollars, sailfin plecs, platys, mollys and guppys, angels, chinese and siamese algae eaters, red tail black sharks etc in the COLDWATER section of the shop with the goldfish.
They sell koi karp as tank fish.
The goldfish tubs at the back outside are really neglectid, somtimes they are so brown/green you often wonder wether theres any fish in them somewhere at the bottom.
The rest of the animals they sell there like hamsters and rats are poorly treated too, the cages and excerise balls they sell for the rats and hamsters would barely fit a mouse in, and many of the poor rodents often bake when its warm because of the glass tanks they keep them in. The rabbits are often stacked 4-5 of them in cages only 4ft long and 2ft wide roughly, and freak out everytime a little kid trys to rattle the cages to make them move(this also goes on with the fish).

Meh...I must have one of the worst selection of lfs in somerset considering the rest i know of are all pretty much in the same state :| . This is the only reason why i shop there, simply because theres no-where else better to go to within an 40mins drive of me, as i rarely get the chance to go anywhere further a'feild. The guy who owns the place is apparently going through a divorce with his wife after he slept with various members of staff apparently, and he is thus planning on selling the place- which i am really, really looking forward to, as anyones gotta do a better job than his half-arsed efforts -_- .
Eh, enough of my rant now :p !

Tokis-Phoenix, I feel your pain. And the fishes' pain as well.

The pet store in the area I live in is actually half-decent; its the two next nearest that are truly pathetic. For instance, I went into "Friendly pets" one day (about an hour's drive away) , and was browsing around, and I spotted a stingray in one of their tiny tanks. The tank itself couldnt have been more than a foot long, the water was cloudy, and the only filter was an airlift undergravel filter. The poor animal. I thought that the shopkeep might have been dumb enough to not know the value of these fish; maybe I could buy him. But alas, this was a mere delusion. The cartiligenous animal was priced at $150.

One of their largest tanks is a beautiful FO with LR marine tank. The live rock is rich with life, the tank had several very pretty fish in it. I said, "Excuse me, could you weigh me out some of this rock?". She said, "No. This is our "display tank'. Olny those rocks are for sale.". She points out a yellowish tank with a few pieces of tufa and a few pieces of lava rock, along with a beautiful dead coral. I said, "How much is that coral piece?". "Its not for sale," was her reply.

Today, I found two cute little yellow tangs and a flame angel in the little yellow sale tank. The tiny tangs were priced at $77 each, and the angel at $211, quadruple the price for them at my LFS.

My Wal-mart had dragon gobies in last month. I bought one on impulse, not only because of its coolness, but because very few others in this town could take care of it. The next day, at my LFS, I tell the manager, Shawn, what I found, just out of conversation. He tells me that the water up here is too hard to support dragon gobies; he ordered some before, but couldnt keep them alive. Luckily, my tank that I put him in is around pH 6.4.

I could go on, but nah.

I agree that the annoying shop staff aren't the ones who are ignorant, but the ones that don't want to learn. All the ones of my local Pets@ were working there when I took up the hobby again. In this period, I have learnt A LOT, they seem to have learnt nothing. Yet, it is my hobby for leisure moments, and their fulltime job. I can't imagine being that sloppy about my profession. Spending your full working day in a job and not wishing to do it as well as possible- wouldn't you feel you were wasting your life?

I HATE NOT HAVING FISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not being able to keep a tank in one layout. I keep finding new peices of wood or rocks that make better hiding spots. Plants that keep dying and wanting to go bigger and better or going marine.

Constantly being reminded of my lack of patience! I want things NOW!. And with fishtanks a lot of the time, you have to have patience. Lack of money is perhaps not always a bad thing- I could have caused a lot of havoc if I'd been let loose in the fish shops without any restraint.
