Quick question -- does the sponge filter get turned on once the fry are freeswimming, or from the start? and how well does it maintain the water? thanks. >.<

Here's a review on Majesticbettas IAL from a friend of mine on another forum:

Ok i bought 21 IAL leaves from majestic bettas. Someone told me that they heard that he boils his leaves and then sells the dead leaf. Ok I boiled my batch and I got 0 friggin tannins from them..........

Soooooooooooooo my reccomendation is to not buy them from him ! If you want really dark IAL that turns your tanks dark WITHOUT boiling buy them from homegrownbettas on aquabid. His are awesome...........

Honestly?! I use his leaves all the time and just an inch turns a gallon of my water VERY brown. I used a half of a leaf in my 10 gallon spawn tank, and it was super brown and had a strong tea smell within an hour of putting it in, it had loads of tannins! I dunno if it could just be their batch?

There could have been problems with the batch or something was wrong during the boiling process. I tried the boiling method before and it wasn't as great as letting the leaf float around. I didn't mean to change the topic of this thread, sorry

I like to put my filter on from the start as its seasoned and so the correct water stats are maintained

I once tried it without and was only going put in once free-swimming but lost the whole lot before I had time to put it on
