HI ALL

So recently I decided my plain-Jane anubias were just too boring for me. They were attached to some local slate, and were nice little plants. But I wanted more space for stuff a little more vibrant. I brought them to the only really good shop I know, and they were going to just take them for nothing, then they saw them in person and gave me $15 store credit. Not too bad, seeing as they need to make a profit on them someday.

My question is, though, what do most hobbyists do with their spare plants? I expected to find sale/auction listings from non-commercial sellers everywhere on the 'net, but haven't found many at all. Even on forums! Given the sheer quantity of people with aquariums in the USA, I am befuddled.

I have a bunch of nice Alternanthera reineckii "mini" stems and cuttings that need new homes SOON, but I have NO idea what to ask for them, or if anyone would really want them.

Would appreciate some input from experienced fishy folk!

I sell mine. I had the biiggest anubias in the vendor room at the Keystone clash last year.

I used to take cuttings and pot them up and let them grow for a bit, then sell them to shops or take them to fish club.

A couple of people on the forum grow aquatic plants and sell them for extra money. Some advertise on eBay, others just sell to whomever.

Maybe some of the people's listings trick me by looking like a commercial company

😉

Though I've been an eBay seller since 1999, I've never sold anything alive! That would be a learning curve.

I collect all toppings that I've cut from my plants and give them to other members of our national livebearer society.

Does it improve the quality of the compost?
I suspect it does, I used to just throw them off the balcony, then mow them up next time I cut the grass but the missus thought that was messy so now I have to pack them to the compost.

I sell to locals mostly. If it's worth selling anyways. Sometimes I get odds and ends floating because corydoras, or a leaf breaks off and starts growing a new plant from it, etc. Mixed bag odds and ends I'll often sell dirt cheap to locals or even give away.

Excess duckweed and lettuce get thrown to my goldfish to enjoy a nice snack.

I think you all have access to way more hobbyists than me! (I'm not very social...)

I decided to try and list some on Ebay tonight. If they don't sell, maybe I'll offer them to peeps here. After that... COMPOST!
