what pleco would live at 30 celsius and be fine ? or any kind of algae eatter what could live with discus ?

Wow! I had to convert that to F and it came out to 86 degrees. I hardly know of any fish period that I would keep that warm for an extended length of time, let alone plecos. That would be at the highest end of the range for Discus, right?

yes thats right thats what i plan to keep but i just wanted to know if i ever had a algae problem what kind of algea eatter would go with discus ?

well i have a algae problem in my tank setup i have now but my pleco has got rid of it all, but im sure if i ever got rid of my pleco it would soon come back, and plus im looking on getting a bigger tank and the tank i have now i want to try and set it up for discus, and because the algae will still be in my filter and gorwing it will start to spread and grow in my tank again, so is there anything i can do to get rid of it all together ?

Discus are quite happy at that temp.

Discus and Plecos however are not a good mix generally

as said above.....manage your tank settings to control the algae instead. Algae does not 'line in your filter', it is mainly cuased by excessive nutrients and lighting.

Can you give us more details about your tank?
How long are the lights on?
What type of algae is it?
Is it planted? - if so, a picture would help.

Unfortunately, the plecos which can and do live easily at discus temps are mostly the Hypancistrus which are meat rather than veggie/algae eaters.

I recently had a heater mishap and found a tank at 106F (41+C). It killed two lovely large discus and a school of rummy nose tetras. However, the 7 L-450 Hypans. in the tank all managed to survive.

I have also treated discus in an H tank at 92F (33.33C) and with 3 cups, yes cups, of salt added to 10 gals of water. Up to a point they can hanlde pretty warm and saline water as a treatment.

The problem with putting algae eating plecos in with discus is is is possible that the pleco will suck off the slime coat on a discus. Normally feeding the plecos properly prevents them from sampling the slime. But once they do it is almost impossible to stop them from doing it regularly.

Wow, it survived 41C, thats crazy.! What a robust fish to have. Shame mine doesn't come out when the light is on so i never get to see him in all his glory. I have also noticed that they enjoy rearranging the gravel and ornaments.

I have no idea how long the heater had been stuff full on for, only the temp when I discovered it. I got the fish from the first person in the states to breed that particular pleco. When I posted about the incident on a pleco site i use, part of the brreder's comment was: "It's amazing how Hypancistrus sps. from brazil can handle high temperatures."

algae wont live in your filter, unless thats made of glass, if it has no light, it wont grow. as people have said already, if you sort out your lighting, you wont get it in your tank.
