I plan on going out for breakfast with Mrs. Badger, then I'll probably shoot some arrows and get my knives and broadheads sharpened up. Archery hunting season starts next week, but my foot's crippled up so I don't know if I'll get to hunt this fall.
This severely bums me out because a) I actually drew a really good elk tag this year and I think this might be my year to finally kill one with a bow, and b) has anyone looked at meat prices lately? Sure would love to fill the freezer with some good, healthy meat for my family.
I was diagnosed in July (after six months of rather severe foot pain) with chronic inflammation of the peroneus longus tendon (one of the tendons that connects the arch of the foot with the calf muscles) I've been in a boot cast for about five weeks, but it doesn't seem to be getting better. I haven't been on a run since Christmas, which also bums me out. You've probably heard the saying: Some people have psychiatrists; I have running shoes. Definitely true for me. I've kept in decent shape biking, swimming, and doing some strength work, but walking without the cast still hurts my foot. So I'm not sure how hunting is going to play out.
But...it's still fun getting out to the shop and fiddling around with my gear. Today I figure to get a shaving edge on my knives and broadheads. Might as well have my gear ready to go, just in case my body rallies.
Have a great weekend, friends! Get outside and do something amazing, then tell me about it!
