What are you cooking?

Well, I ate my last piece of hoagie for brunch. I'm officially done...until xmas. You guessed it, hoagies & football again, lol.

Tonight, we're having my late M-I-L's meatcakes. Sort of firm meatloaf patties but with garlic & brown gravy mix (homemade is not the right thing). Mashed potatoes of course, & maybe carrots & broccoli (my choices). I was the only 1 that ever asked my M-I-L how to make them many years ago. I have had to send the adapted recipe to my sibs-in-law several times. Don't they have recipe files?

I used to make them for my late father-in-law sometimes when I visited. He thought I could make darn near anything he wanted, even things I'd never had, lol (chicken marsala? Nailed it! Or close enough?). When he was ill, my food was much more like what he wanted than his daughter's versions. But I did listen when he said what would make it "good". My husband & I used to trade off visits to give our sibs a break from caring for him & my mother. Food seems like such minor but appreciated treats & trips down memory lane for us all. Since we've always lived far away, we did the best we could when we were there 😢

Beef broccoli stir fry tonight. After a busy day of housework, I'm sore & tired. But dinner turned out great with some leftovers for tomorrow! I may have to sleep in as a reward, lol...or do some more laundry...It's always something!

polished off the last of the turkey. had the leftovers fixed every way imaginable, followed by two naps after each meal thanks to tryptophan.
nap is not a bad thing at my age, wife has always felt that way!

Just having a simple cheese burger with bread and butter pickles and sauteed onions and a decent amount of Swiss cheese. Fries on the side. Mustard on the burger and ketchup for the fries and a dip of the burger when wanted.

I'm still sore after housework yesterday followed by dancing to music for a ton of veggie chopping. We had some ramen with carrots & cabbage. Tasty but not too healthy. Meh, we'll have the stir fry leftovers tomorrow even though my husband had some for brunch today.

That sounds very yummy!! More dishes than I do at 1 time ;)

We're having beef/broccoli etc. stir fry leftovers. Similar but different from my ramen lunch, I think I'm addicted to it already! Not a great habit, I'm hoping it wears off, lol.

Sounds like dining at a fancy restaurant without the price tag.
Kind of depends on how ya do it. ;) The stuffed chicken and scalloped taters both came from Omaha Steaks ready to cook and go, just added some shrooms to the the chicken while it was on the stove and dumped on the taters after they nuked. Broccoli and cheese was just throwing the broccoli and cheese, with butter, in a small sauce pan. Cranberry sauce was just opening the can... Really less than 10 minutes prep and 15-20 minutes cooking.

BTW, Remember when you could open both ends of a can of jelled cranberry sauce and just push it out in one lump? Even though the newer cans can only be opened on one end (at least with Ocean Spray) you can still just slide it out of the can in one piece. On the end that you can't open just use something to poke a hole to let in air. Then open the other end and just squeeze the can a bit and shake it out. Works like a charm. :)

yeah not to mention the savings on the tip for an exotic home cooked meal. we love doing that!

this morning made my usual cooked oats, honey, raisins, nutmeg, maple extract and just for giggles put in a heaping tablespoon of creamy peanut butter (WOW) wifie wants it that way each time now.

I steamed up soup dumplings from Trader Joe’s. Made fried rice to accompany the dumplings. 🥟

gwand, I haven't tried TJ soup dumplings, I'll check them out next trip. Husband is a bit fussy about ingredients; no mushrooms, no fish, no kale except the tiny bit in gyoza (pot stickers).

Have you tried TJ's pot stickers? Pork is our fav. We like them fried then steamed. Also, TJs spanikopita triangles (not the other kinds) are pretty good. I like TJ Mandarin orange chicken but my husband doesn't. Not very healthy, but it's dark meat chix he hates.

My wife is the food fuss pot in my house. No mushrooms, onions, peppers and the list is endless. Haha. It gets difficult since I do the bulk of the cooking. Yes I like TJ’s pot stickers. I have not tried the Mandarin chicken or spanikopita. Dark meat chicken is more flavorful and moist compared to white meat! What is up with our spouses? 😉
