I'd never ever work in a pet shop or my LFS (have considered it.) Cos I'd try and take over, but most of all because of all the blatsed bratts.

I hate children. Well behaved children, quiet and polit, I very happy to even talk to. But sadly I come across very few. My niece is lovely knows how to behave, I even balt her a goldfish for her birthday (she already had a large well established tank.) Her mother bralt her up how both her and I was, in over words she not afrade to give my neice a smack or just tell her NO. (i don't wanna get into this one.)

give me my animals any day. As most children make me want, to KILLLLLLL :*)

I agrea with everything, tapping, running, shouting, NEMO NEMO NEMO (you want Nemo you pay blasted £25 for it to die, and then try to replace the wild stock when it dies out fine by me,) getting in the blasted way, espeshaly when I got my dog with me, who beleave me is proberly more welcome in the shop than the kids are.

It not just shops though I was at a ferret show on sunday, and there was one kid that just would'nt sit still, kept fiddling with my cage poking at the dog, and ferret. Just genraly harrassing us. I just so pleased my animals are tolorent.

I'm rambling arn't I, I just realy realy can't stand children never have done never will.

Thats so true about not always the children, I see so many old people start walking around the tank having a good look, then suddenly out comes the hand and TAP TAP, they bend down to be head on with the fish then tap away.

a work college had a gran-ma with a child come in and the kid tapped on the display tank my mate told her not to do so as the gran didn't, he explained why etc then as he walks away the bloody gran taps the glass.

Some kids don't just tsp the glass they really bang it and are probable the same at home, some woman called in saying her kid had broken the tank with it's rattle!!

Some reactions i get some some kids and teenages are suprisingly good and know most there stuff.

Oh another one is poeple picking books off the shelfs going in the fish house with them, looking the fishup in the book then putting the book back when they'ved used it, the books are only about £3, pathetic.

This isnt just kids but alot of times older ppl, push past you and then stand RIGHT in your way so u have to push past them. And the main thing that is annoying at LFS is running kids/cry ones, some kid was cry for like 5 minutes and i had to leave the store before i checked to see if the kid could swim with the cichlids

Isnt that worse than the current topic though?

kids who arn't taught any better will tap the glass, its natural for them to do so, why is it bad, they dont know as they have never been told. I hate that, mine would never do that, but if an adult did, would they get the same reaction? I have never seen a thread about adults being an arse in an lfs. The odd topic on an individual, but never in general. This thread is about All kids being a menace in lfs's and its just not true, the adult who insists that his 2.5' tank is the ideal environment for a silver shark is a menace. The ten year old that knows he can only buy a betta for his 5g is enlightened.

Jon (I know I said "my last word" but this makes me so mad and yes I know there ARE bad ones out there)

Lets see a thread about what annoys you about adults in an lfs

I find it enjoyable watching kids faces drop when you tell them the fish they keep aren't compatible or likely to kill anything else they want.
That is mean. Have u ever thought about how that kid really feels? U think maybe it feels like crap? I am 13 going on 14 and i know a lot of kids who dont do stuff like that. some of us actually want to keep the fish right. We should start another thread. What annoys u most about the people who work a t the LFS.

The thing is there have been plenty of those posts about LFS employees :p

As for why no-one complains about adults - that's cause the general rule is that adults aren't completely irresponsible (most of the time) while most children are. So while kids being annoying at an LFS is very common, adults being annoying at an LFS (in the same way - taping on glass or blocking fish from view, screaming - crying etc :p) is rare. The occasional exceptions are those one-off posts about an adult which you reffered to. I also think this is like the first time I've seen a thread aimed at complaining about (not all) some children so actualy it's not that bad.

I hate it when u have just got ur fish in the bag and the little gits just prod the bag sayin summin like "whats that?" or "whats its name!"

i went to the pet shop today i did see a really good kid at the shop that was like 6 or 7 and knew some of the names of the fish and wasnt doing any tapping shouting, etc. but there was kids there going where is nemo, then they found him and all hell broke lose

it breaks my heart when i hear people taking advice from the lfs guy when i know what he tells his customer is wrong.

He most likely doesn't know it's wrong but still, the customer will go home with some fish, and be sad because they die or fight or eat each other... And they don't understand why

or when LFS employees know nothing about cycling and just tell customers to let everything run for a week and then add fish slowly, not more than once a week.... :(

then on weekends you have all the kids running around, people shouting because the place is packed and all but that's life!

Things I hate about kids in the fish store:

1. The kids themselves. Running, shouting and all that, when they insist on walking right in front of your face while you are looking in a tank, then staying there till you just want to reach out and move them forcibly, watching as the employee is netting out your fish then start yelling that they want to catch the fish, parent says no, the kid throws a hissy fit right in your ear. OR deciding they want fish then end up getting dragged screaming out to the car when they don't get it. Or, butting in front of me at a tank I'm waiting patiently in front of waiting for the LFSE to get the net, then decide you want the same fish I already had picked out. Over my cold dead body small one.

2. The parents. I know children aren't exactly like dogs, but for crying out loud, if you can't control them with verbal commands, buy them a damn leash! Oh, and when I tell you that goldfish need a bigger tank, don't just nod your head, tell me the tanks you have, then stand there and ask for more fish than you can handle. I wasn't lying, why are you buying more? And don't look at me like I'm insane when I tell you the adult size of a common pleco, reserve that look for when I'm giving you death stares, it saves time.

3. The employees. I, unlike the parents of those toddlers over there, came and looked for you to help me, since I can't net my own fish, which I won't mention I can do better than some of you (them), then serve the adults before me. I came and got you, not them!! Don't make me stand at the side for ten minutes while you chase a goldfish thats going to die because the parent didn't listen to me, thus making me even later getting back home. And stop looking at me like I'm going to steal something when you have eight year olds running around taking fragile decorations that cost thirty dollars off the shelves, then run to show their parents.

Okay, as one can tell, I went to a chain store the other week, and the rest is from a trip to walmart a few weeks ago....

Hey, I need to vent!

PS, I know their are good people and kids out there, but this is a gripe session.

I just hate kids in general. I know, I'm a cold-hearted ol' crab.
I hate them running, I hate them tapping on fish tanks, I hate them shouting, I hate them speaking, I hate them standing around in the middle of an aisle like they're the only person on the face of the earth, I hate them buying pets that I know they're just going to kill (I was a kid once, and I know that no kid is going to be able to keep a small newt alive for long without a miracle...) and I hate them breathing.

...

and yes, my LFS stocks newts

Hi all
Just so you know i'am 11 and i'am very well behaved and know alot a about fish (I'am the the yougest member of my fish club)
and i'd never ever ever run around a pet store scearming NEMO or tap on the glass coz this would be embrassing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My Parenets are the best and have brought me up with respect and rulz and if i'd do this they'd kill me.Also the things i hate are

1) Ill advised pet shop guys (Like selling a oscar to a guy with a over stocked 10 gallon  )

2) People ingoreing advise (Like the women i told she couldn't have a pleco or Neons in her goldfish pond

God Some Kids Are Very mean and the Parents will have a Go @ you and Not @ there own Misbehaved Kids.

When I was Working in the LFS, And Parents Came in with Kids I would Always try to Entertain the Kids and Show them the Differnet and Unusual Fish while the Parents Chose What they Wanted.

If I Had to remove Fish while Customers Were around and the Kids would start Asking questions. I would say thet this Fishy is Poorly And I am Taking it to The Hospital Room, To get Well.

The Best Thing I found that Always Kept The Children Very Queit and Stopped them Tapping On Tanks :- Was Having Findong Nemo Playing on a Continous Loop in the Demo Area - it was good that we had the room to set this up with Benches.

And Getting the Children to Count How Many Babies there were in Certain Tanks, But explaining that any tapping hurt the Fishies And Scared them, so they had to be still and Quiet to count the Babies.

You sound like a great LFS worker. :)

btw I told my kids tapping the tank will make the water vibrate, which makes the fish's brains vibrate which is very painful and could make them die. I have to be kinda graphic with my kids sometimes. lol. My 5 yo shook the whole tank once which thoroughly freaked me out but I asked him if he'd like to make it tip and watch the fish die on the floor and he cried and said no. He doesn't shake the tank anymore. All 3 of my kids are very much animal lovers.
