What A Suprise

Hi diesel21,

Thanks mate, Yes Corys are fantastict. I'm very lucky that I only have 3 and, they've mated.

Totaly goes against the rule of thumb, should have at least 5-6 shoal.

Saying that I have 3 bronze Corys in another tank, and what I belive 2 females to 1 male. The 1 male started feathering upto one female and kept very close to her. He is now not intrested and I have a feeling now he thinks he's the dominant male( he knows he is) so he's not bothered.

So is an excuse to get some more bronze corys

 mr boss will soon find out hes got competion haha!

I wish my tank was bigger so I cud get more corries they are such characters! but dont want to over stock my ten gallon, I've learned many people would say not to have them in a small tank and have only two - I feel guilty, beginners mistake before I found this forum! they seem happy however

It will be interesting to read your updates on how they grow as they look so tiny, thanks for sharing with us :)

Amazing pics.
This is all so cool, even for those of us in the peanut gallery...

careful with the normal fry traps, my wrigglers managed to get out through the gaps as they are so small for the first few days..........
in the end i bought a small plastic tank (you know the type with the bright yellow or red lids that they sell in pet shops? it has a little plastic 'window' in the lid?
i stuck an airline in there and hey presto a perfect corydora fry tank :)

dont u need a heater for that tank?

nope, the outside air is warm enough here for the tanks not to need a heater. none of my aquariums have heaters until it gets really cold in late december :)

If you want to get the bronze going, I have read that the hormones that are present with cories that are breeding will help encourage cories that are not. Maybe next time you are doing a water change to induce breeding with the bronze, you could add some water back from the breeding tank. I don't know it would work but it's worth a try.

Hi Oldman47,

Thanks for the heads up on that, I'll give it a try. Then I can let you know if it works or not.

Myth busters here I come

So yesterday morning while I was at work. I got a text from the misses saying " you've got another 14 eggs "
I'd just taken the breeder net the night before, thing i'm not gonna get anymore eggs. I got home and tried to clean the alge infested net ( gave up after 2 mins)

Mmmmmmm I'll have to use my plastic breeder box thing-a-me-jig. So before you ask me whats that other thing in it. It's a peice of wood, stuck in the hole thats big enough for an egg or small fry to fit through. Well I forgot about it and when putting the eggs in one went strait through it ( I cursed a bit  alot). Thats why I didn't use the smegging thing before hand.

Anyways here's a pic of the trap.

I noticed a black dot tonight in one of the eggs(probly an eye)Got my camera out, smeg batterys dead. I'll take a pic as soon as they're charged.

Plus i'll have to do a pic of the sand, cause it looks like a bomb site with all the little holes where the bigger fry are sticking there noses, way passed there eyes into the sand lol

quick tip on cleaning an algae covered breeding net.

take the net of the frame, run under warm water and scrub with a nail or tooth brush, algae comes off in seconds! :good:

I got a better tip

Get hold of net, open bin, drop it in. Job over in milli seconds

The trouble with the breeder nets it's a poor design. Not the net itself, but the frame.

I think i'll design one and make some money
